"import in small chunks of albums"

I am aware of the known bugs for G2 but the importing from G1 to G2 has me a little confused. I would like to import an album that has ~180 pictures in it. I have tried to import the album but it only gets some of the pictures (always different). The known bugs says to import in small chunks of albums, is there a way to import chunks of pictures from an album? Then I could get the comments etc. to come with them?

Are you using alpha 4? There have been plenty of bug fixes since it was released. Try using WinCVS to get the latest G2 code from CVS or download a nightly snapshot. Do a clean install, by removing the database tables and deleting all the files in both the main gallery folder and the data folder before installing the new version. Good luck ;)

I think 200 images would count as small chunks. Have you actually tried yet? I would also definatly start with the most current version of Gallery 2 you can, either via CVS or nightly snapshot. I have imported over 4,000 images in one "chunk" as well as trying it in smaller chunks of maybe 500+ images.

Try it and see. If it doesn't work, you can always try it again.

west4me, I did fix a largish bug having to do with memory consumption in the migration process. Please try again with a recent snapshot. If you still have trouble, please let me know. I will then want to know more about your G1 and G2 installations. Thanks!

Do you own the server or do you purchase hosting?
how much memory is allocated to PHP (in phpinfo)?

I purchase hosting. Not sure where the memory size is located in the phpinfo. Could someone point my in the right direction?

First, check if you have --enable-memory-limit in Configure Command section (Third section from the top). If it isn't there, then your memory limit is unlimited (see here for more details. If --enable-memory-limit is there, then search for memory_limit in PHP Core section. It will give you the actual value

I searched through the phpinfo and found nothing about memory-limit so I guess it is unlimited.

I sent a pm to jmullan but I thought I would update here also. I deleted my first install and installed the most recent nightly. This did not fix my problem. I still am only importing small numbers of pictures from an album. There are about 200 in one album and it only imports around 100, each time I try it is different.

Darn, it wasn't the bug that I fixed. Hmm. This will probably be a tough thing to figure out. I'd like to see your G1 and G2. Do you have access to your apache logs? More specifically can you look at the error log?

Also, how long does it take for a failure? Is it about the same amount of time every time?

I looked through the error log and picked out the g2 errors. This is what I found:

I looked in the download and there is not a "com" directory. Not sure if that is the problem though.

Those all look like errors from a java applet - perhaps the thumbnail cropping tool?

I found your g1 and g2 sites. At first glance it looks like you successfully migrated a bunch of albums. Which one failed? Did it fail exactly 30 seconds or five minutes in? If so, then your problem may be solved my my next (major) change.

It failed 30 seconds or so in, every time. It is an album titled Angie that failed. I look forward to trying it out.
