out of the middle of nowhere, the galleries were fine and then i get this error on my largets gallery. i have no clue why it did it or what is going on. i can't figure it out. but it has caused it so that the main gallery can be opened so none of the pics can be viewed.
error message:

Looks like it's working on your site, again. Gallery puts up this message when one of its albums gets corrupted. You pretty much have to follow its directions and move the problem album out of the albums directory and rebuild it. This should happen *very* infrequently.

Oh, right -- that message is only visible to the admins so I didn't see it when I browsed your site.
A remote inspection of your Gallery indicates that album01's data file is toast, as is its backup file. You can salvage all the photos, but you'll lose all the captions and comments. The strategy for recovering the album:
1. move it out of your albums directory
2. create a new album
3. use the "local filesystem import" or the "url import" features to suck all
the photos back in
I'd be curious how and why this failure happened. Did you upgrade recently? If so, from what version? What was the last version of Gallery where you saw this album working successfully? I know that there were bugs in 1.2.5 that could cause this type of failure but I thought I worked all those out in 1.3.

I'm running Gallery v1.3-cvs-rc4 on
Windows XP
Apache 1.326
PHP 4.22
It did the exact same thing for two of my albums when I updated from CGI to Module mode PHP.

no updates, just have 1.3 and let it sit, users were adding photos like nuts. i think i had over 300 pics in that album. there were like 5 or 6 pages of subalbums in the main album and then in each of those folders it would range from like 1 to 20+ pics.

I´ve got the same Error... How can I delete the old album Files... Using Gallery 1.3.1

It's happened to me at least twice. One of my albums had over 100 pictures with captions... out of nowhere it died... about a week after I captioned them. That was not cool.
I'm using 1.3
This is a *very serious* bug -- Please put it up high on your do-fix list.

We first lost an album because we wrere uploading using Gallery Remote (.3) and we hit our quota, resulting in a corrupted gallery file. (We are running Gallery 1.3 in PostNuke)
We used a helpful post to remove that directory and created a new one.
Now we cannot upload files to teh new gallery.
I did upgrade the account so Iwould no longer run out of disk spage.
I also upgraded Gallery re,ote and gallery to 1.3.1(Followed the directions)
Now I am having problems like those discribed here above.
There does not seem to be a fix online.
We love Gallery, and have been recommending it to friends and customers (I resell web hosting for PostNuke sites) My wife and I are planning to donate too (once we pay off the back to school for the kids-NEVER HAVE FOUR!--- )
 We just want it all to work again, we lost so much when the first album went down! It is too bad gallery cannot detect the bad file and automaticly rebuld the album somehow! (I know, I want toooooo much!)
Once I get this fixed I hope to begin marketing web sites to Photographers who can use gallery (an you bet that they can all make a donation too - if they do I won't charge a set up fee!)

duaine,
For each busted album you need to:
1. move it out of your albums directory
2. create a new album
3. use the "local filesystem import" or the "url import" features to suck all
the photos back in
If you tell me the URL to your gallery I can tell you which ones are busted,
but it should be the same as the list that it gives you when you're logged in
as admin.
The good news is that this problem won't happen with G2, thankfully!

The gallery is at <!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://trishasballoons.com/pages/modules/gallery" TARGET="_blank">TrishasBalloons.com</A><!-- BBCode End --> (http://trishasballoons.com/pages/modules/gallery)
What my wife did not tell me is that there is a new error, invalid image, when we try and upload.
I wish I knew this all better. We will donate to G2, I hope it will make it out soon. I am now marketing to hundreds of balloon artists and photogaphers, and I need to show them a well supported module. I know your work well enough to know I need to stick with gallery and get this down. Thaks for your kind help, I'll be spending a lot of time on this tommorrow!

boo! Two more albums got corrupt this evening. All the hits & captions & comments.. gone!
Too bad there isn't a utility to import caption & comment data.... or a data repair util...

Use the "cleanup script" from the User Guide to change the permissions on the directory so that you can remove it.

Something is seriously wrong with your setup. I checked out one of your corrupted albums (album32) and the .dat files are only partially written. I can't think of a scenario where this happens except for issues where Apache/PHP is crashing.
What version of Apache and PHP are you using? Can you send me a link to phpinfo.php on your system?

I sent you the url in a PM
