Good thing you said this, GR 1.0 final is supposed to go out in 2-3 days. Can you describe the problem in more details and post the log? Thanks!

I'm seeing this problem as well, with both the b11 and b12 builds (the 1.0b4 would quit properly but would not login if you were anyone other than the admin).
With these builds, the only way I can shut down this proggie is to force close the Gallery Remote process manually from my task manager.
What info can I provide you to help troubleshoot this? I'm running Windows XP SP1. I already had the Sun Java 1.41 installed before installing Gallery Remote. I was using 1.0b4 previously but am testing the newer builds for my users that cannot log in via that version. And now I'm seeing the issue where it won't quit.
The last line in Gallery Remote's log.txt simply states:
Cherie (being French, it's quite a jolt to start a post this way  ), could you indeed send me the log file (you may want to find and replace your passwords with *** before) to [gallery at paour dot com]. Thanks.

Just a "Me Too", GR does not close and have to use Task Manager.
Using GR 1.0b12. Java 1.4.1_01 on Windows 2000.

Can someone post a full log? I am still unable to reproduce this bug...
Download 1.0b12, unzip files into old install directory.
Start GR from start menu item.

drees, thanks for the log trace, but it doesn't show you trying to select File>Quit.
Also, before you run GR, can you activate the detailed log (read the ReadMe.html to learn how to do that)?
I've added in a new build a catch all statement to try to overcome any problem, but I'm puzzled as to why the app would not quit and yet not print any exception to the log or standard output.
To debug this, please run Gallery in console mode (read ReadMe.html to see how to do that, too).
Thanks for your help guys (and gals)...

I suspect this stack trace is what you're looking for. I got this twice: Once when I hit File->Quit, another time when I forced it closed using the task manager.
Any reason you don't catch all stack traces and log them to file?

Thanks for the stack trace drees. Now I know what's acting up and I'll fix it right away.
And now I also do catch any Throwables that happen when shutting down. Doing this in a general case in an event-driven application is a pain in the ass, and not really necessarily productive. Especially in the case of NPEs, it's better if they don't happen at all...

Good point. My Java work has been mostly with server side applications, I now remember that you can't simply throw a big try/catch around the whole thing to catch all exceptions.

BTW, I just built GR fresh from CVS, no more shutdown problems. Will let you know if I find any other problems.

*grin* My grandmother is French so I know... I am often referred to as 'Mon Cherie'.
Anyway, sorry for the delayed reply. I think I was expecting that I'd get an email notify if there was a response to my post as I hadn't seen one when I had looked manually a few days later, so sorry I'm just getting back to it now.
Anyway, I assume you no longer need a copy of my logs as someone posted the detail in a later thread. And that you indeed fixed this up in the current 1.01 betas. I'll download one of those and confirm that it has fixed the issue for me as well, since my system config may be different from others.
Thanks!

Yeah, as you noted, I finally got that problem killed, so no need to chase your logs...
If you want to get email notification, you can monitor the whole forum, but that's not exactly what you want.

yet it stays running like I said. Let me know if you want me to email you the whole log file or try anything else.

Installation process was as follows:
Install 1.0b4.

Glad I could help.
Good point. My Java work has been mostly with server side applications, I now remember that you can't simply throw a big try/catch around the whole thing to catch all exceptions.

BTW, I just built GR fresh from CVS, no more shutdown problems. Will let you know if I find any other problems.

drees: yes, this would be very useful. GR 1.0 should be released today or tomorrow.

Thanks!
~Cherie

Yeah, as you noted, I finally got that problem killed, so no need to chase your logs...
If you want to get email notification, you can monitor the whole forum, but that's not exactly what you want.
