I took the example implementation from the contrib area and updated it
a bit, here is my version:

Umm, well, this doesn't handle diff's to well, and I don't see a fileupload.
If you have trouble with this, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Edited to strip out the code, the patch is below.

Great work. Can you publish this on a website somewhere? If you can do that, I'll update the link on the "contributed code" page so that your patch remains current and that people can find it. Thanks,

For anyone using this patch:

I had to remove the php getimagesize calls due to some issues I've
found where it falsely reports 1x1 images (I've only seen it on gif files
currently) that has caused me to modify getDimensions in util.php
to grab the image width and height using the ImageMagick 'identify'
command.
