Why Doesnt Gallery Album Structure Match File Structure???

I store all my pictures in a YEAR/MONTH/EVENT directory structure on my workstation. When I first started with Gallery I used a tool to import all this structure into gallery (a huge help). Since then, however I have to add albums one by one. I find this structure makes it easy to drill into Christmas '99 for example. I was thinking it would be great if I could just grab a new directory and drop it into the gallery images directory and have Gallery recognize it and apply inherited securities as it is accesed.

This could also reduce the large directory reads the system now does as all albums are stored at the root.

Personally I am just looking to have a batch utility that synchronizes everything under a root directory so my lazy butt doesn't need to do it... :D

Perhaps there is a reason this is not the case, if so please help me understand why this is not the preferred method.

As always thanks for the amazing product - I have been turning all my friends onto it!

I store my images in the same file structure. I have been using IDS, and just got Gallery going last night. It looks terrific, but I'm not looking forward to importing directories one at a time.

You mentioned a tool for bulk importing in your post. What was it?

Thanks,

Bert

try doing a search for galleryadd.pl - there are lots of ways to tweak this utility.

Anyone have comments on my original post?
