When using the search feature is there a way to search for one of two words, such as any picture that has the word "Michael" OR the word "Jordan" in the description?
Also, is there a way to search for two words, such as any picture that has the word "Michael" AND the word "Jordan" in the description?

Nope. Right now the search only matches exact (case insensitive) strings. When Gallery 2 comes out, it will use a central database, so powerful searching features will be easy to add in.
