Has anyone seen a mod or thought about creating one that allowed the selection of certain images (via checkbox) to be added to a virtual lightbox or favorites? This would really open up Gallery to being used by stock photographers and for the display of stock photography. Imagine looking through 100's of photos, it would be great to be able to pick and choose one's you like and save them that way. Maybe it could be tied into the login.

A personal favourites page is a great idea. The site could also highlight the most popular photos which multiple users have added to their "virtual lightbox". All this is fairly complex, and would be much more easily implemented as a Gallery 2 module, since the data would integrate smoothly in the SQL database.
There would be a lot more code overhead in Gallery 1, but I imagine it would be simple enough to add a link below each photo that adds the photo name to a text file for each user, and another "view_albums.php"-based page could read in the file and grab those photos. Implementing check-boxes would add a large amount of complexity (preserving the states, when to update the list, etc).
Are you a developer? If so, then I think your cathexis should be on something for Gallery 2, since the core framework is very far along.

Developer? Unfortunately no...not enough of that left brain. I'm a photographer and multimedia designer. I really like Gallery and have had a few clients that shoot stock photos and want it except they want that small functionality, being able to checkmark certain images, than maybe clicking a link that shows them only they're selections. I think it would be an excellent addon.
