my server will not allow shell access. had to upload via FTP. did so to my cgi-bin in a folder named gallery. noted that the .htaccess and config.php files were already there. no problem changing permissions. questions i need answered.
1. do the existing files mentioned above need to be overwritten with the empty file mentione in all read me texts.
2. if so no problem, but there is no file that i can see named setup. the read me files indicate that permissions have to be changed on that file. clarify?
3. ok so if all goes well with the above what i do next is rather cryptic. my website url is <!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://mshedphoto.com" TARGET="_blank">mshedphoto home</A><!-- BBCode End --> would like to get this thing up and running some time this century.

thanks for any help

OK..are you upgrading gallery? why are the .htaccess and config.php files there?

1. If you are not upgrading gallery, the files need to be blank
2. setup is a directory
3. Please follow the README &amp; FAQ--they're very informative..

no not upgrading. first time installation. the files were in the original downloaded file. perhaps i should not have up loaded them. i can overwrite them. when you say that set up is a directory im confused. explain. do you mean a directory in my cgi-bin if so do i have to establish a path to it?

Please read the README! Upload the files to your server, set the permissions, run the install script...It's all in the README/INSTALL instructions. Check the FAQ also. This forum is directed toward problems with installation, we can't give step-by-step instructions for everyone. If you are having trouble, after reading the README, please come back..

Don't hesitate to use the forums, just try reading the directions beforehand  Good luck!
