Hi. Being an expat in Oman, I am trying to keep up to date with the family back home using my site - http://www.andrewmogford.co.uk I have photos I want to put up, and I have FTP'd Gallery up to my site. However, I get stuck with the instructions to create empty-file and then type put empty-file config.php. Where exactly do I type this? I use Smartftp. I am sorry to be so thick - and I hope someone can help! |

Create a blank text file, in notepad or something, and then upload it as config.php Make sure it's chmoded 0666!
I can't really help you with specific FTP programs, but I can do it for you, if you want...

Thanks for your offer to do it for me, but I like to learn to do these things for myself - so next time I do one I wont have to bother people.
Two more questions for you if I may (sorry).
Firstly, if I create the files within notepad they become config.php.txt. Do I then need to change the extension?
Secondly, do I put the files in the Gallery directory on the server.
oh, and should it be 666 or 777? The instructions say 777.
I am on messenger (andrew_mogford@hotmail.com) if anyone can help out on that!
Thanks for the help so far!

1) When saving the file in notepad, on the drop-down box to select file type, there will be Text Document (*.txt) [or something like that] and All Files (*.*) Select All Files and then type config.php Yes, once uploaded to the server, the file will need a .php extension
2) Yes, the files for gallery should be on the server. Also create a directory to store album data. The gallery folder can just be chmoded 755, but the album directory needs 777.
The config.php and .htaccess files need to be chmoded 666 (though 777 will work the same way, it just makes them executable--the important thing is that the server can write to them)
I do not have MSN messenger, but only have AIM...if you have this, I'll email you my s/n (tell me if you have AIM first)

Hi - thanks again for the help!
I use Trillian - and it seems to be compatible with AIM so yes I could chat on that. Let me try what you say first, then I may not need to bother you........

OK - me again!
I've done what you said, and I now have the correct files in place - I think!
Anyway - I get a different screen when I click on gallery now - and it seems OK at that stage.
However, when I click on Configuration I get an internal server error 500......
Any ideas? :???:

The error log is your friend. If you have access to it, please post any messages it logged...

Error log? Not sure, mate.
All it says is :
Error 500 - Internal Server Error.
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.....

Do you have access to the error log on your server? Obviously something isn't right, and the error log will have a more verbose message.

I don't think I do - but I'm not sure. I'll give you FTP access if you want....

Did you read FAQ C? Try removing setup/.htaccess as it indicates.

My apologies Bharat - that solved the problem and please rest assured that I will donate to the cause when it is up and running. There is one more small problem which I have posted in a new thread. I hope you don't mind and thanks again!
