Associated files i.e. "original" files

A suggestion that has become a hot topic in my circles. Associated files.

Gallery is terrific. Maintaining the original upload, then sizing to thumbs and sized images, great.

What is being asked is about the ability to also upload and associate an 'original' original file, like a RAW file. Many of us shoot in RAW format and must convert the images for the internet. But some people would like to provide the RAW version for download as well as the converted images.

It would be possible of course to attach or associate any file, like a music file as well. But this feature would be a boon for photographers who shoot and store in non-JPG/PNG/GIF/TIFF, and so on file types.

Great proggie....

The search feature brings a few threads up in this regard. Instead of bumping - try searching? I simply used the word raw.

Here's a thread that may be of interest: RAW (.crw) image uploads and conversion

Tx for the response.

Am actually looking not to convert a RAW file, though I know this is on a lot of people's radar, but just be able to post a JPG, have the original, thumb and sized file which all work great... but to also "attach" an assocaited file, like a RAW file, so when people viewing hte thumbs could seclect the sized, then the original, then... the original RAW which could then be downloaded.

Am in many venues where skills and technques are shared constantly, and if users were able to attach a RAW file, not for cenversion, but to just be associated with the original JPG, would be a great thing for sharing of these techniques.

As it is now, people upload their RAW files to another location, point to it, and that is the onyl way. Cumbersome. It is just a feature that I have seen asked about quite a bit lately in the forums I hang in.

This is the kind of thing I'm looking for too.

My digital camera doesn't take RAW, but JPG. However, that JPG is not necessarily the final one I intend to display in Gallery. Instead, I want to edit the file in PhotoShop, producing a new JPG from which thumbs and resized images are generated.

Then in Gallery I really want to view those 3 along with the two associated files: the original JPG and the transitional PSD file.

There's sadly no way to do this in Gallery right now, which is a shame because I'm sure others would use it too; basically anyone who cares to edit the files and can provide the storage space necessary to host them all.

I just gave my particular configuration here. For others, the "original" may also be RAW or TIFF, and the "transitional" may be Gimp format.

So far I've made a couple simplistic hacks to move_album.php and view_album.php to allow me to move and view these files, but I don't have anything to handle getting these associated files there in the first place.

It'd be nice if Gallery had something for "associated" or "editable" files.

Pardon the late response. Ya, this is something I have several people asking about... the ability to post 'original' files with an image. Like how you detail below.... sure would be nice.

If implementing, I wouldn't go ahead and limit it to just original files. I would make the feature such that the user can configure Gallery to attach any number of associated files and filetypes, and make each of these toggle between viewable or private.

While some may want to associate an original file, others might also want the go-between editable file. Still others might rather associate a nice long text file describing the picture. Or an audio clip. Or....
