I am a complete novice and I am planning on using Gallery and sign up at Superb Internet (http://services.superb.net. I am used to working on a Win2k platform and want to host a photo sharing site (sell as well) my images.
1) I am not familiar with Unix but the site recmmends it. Should I go Windows or Unix? clear whether I should
2) Do I unzip the Gallery files in a directory on my local drive, complete all the picture loading, organization, and any customizing first, then join a site and upload everything? I just don't know where to start! Sorry for the neophyte level questions.
Ron

Give us your Gallery/webserver information to get a faster answer.
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful):
Gallery version:
Apache version:
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please):
Graphics Toolkit:
Operating system:
Web browser/version (if applicable):

rongreen, if your main purpose is running Gallery, go with unix. Or, if they offer Apache on Windows thats fine too.

IIS is not officially supported.

Basic start:

1. Download all files
2. Extract locally
3. Upload to host (ftp?)
4. Run the web based configuration wizard.

http://gallery.sf.net/docs.php is a good starting point. :)
