Access to sub albums via ftp and .mov thumb posting

I have 2 questions for anyone who might have an answer:

1-I am unable to access my albums which are script generated via ftp
the only solution so far has been to download the sub album dir. and delete it from the server and re-upload it thus giving myself permission as the creator of it as opposed to the script. this is time consuming and bandwith hoging. any sugestions for specific script hacks to make owner of album as admin of gallery?

2-Second question, I use Gallery for video (.mov specifically) currently when I upload to albums it is unable to generate thumbnails from the first frame of the .mov(I have tried using .jpeg compression as the video codec) Is there a hack to make the thumbs from the first frame of the video, and if not has anyone coded a simple way for gallery users to upload a thumb .jpg to go with their .mov a sopposed to the default icon generated by the script??????
