Question on how upgrades effect themes and modules?

My Gallery is giving me a notice I need to upgrade it. I know it was current version as of about 2-3 month ago. I installed a theme and MANY modules from this site. If I choose to have Gallery upgrade, will I have issues, or do the themes and modules work in such a way I should be ok? Its been a couple of months since i installed the theme and the modules and was my first time. So it was a VERY rough learning curve. To be honest, I don't even remember what all I had to do to do it. So am very, very hesitant about doing the upgrade as I don't want to have to suffer the learning curve again. I know with wordpress, I can choose to upgrade it, and it never really has a negative effect on anything or if it does its very minor and usually an easy fix. Im not sure if Gallery is more like word press in those regards.. or more like a Phpbb where upgrading it will break your mods completely. Thank you in advance for any information. |

Really, it depends. In MOST cases, the upgrade isn't an issue and everything will continue to work as expected.
But there ARE times when an upgrade to the Gallery core requires you to upgrade modules and/or themes.
I would normally just say to make a full backup of your Gallery (and db) and give it a go, but you say that installing Gallery "a VERY rough learning curve" and I'm not sure what that means for you, so it's your call.
