Supported Hosts

Hi guys;

About a year ago, I moved our Gallery installation from a "random" host to Hostupon based on the recommendation provided by the developers. I continue to have problems with uploading images (having to rebuild images after every uploaded, extremely slow upload times, etc). I have a feeling that it could be resource limitations of Hostupon, but it's frustrating since they are supposedly a recommended host by the Gallery Team.

Is anyone having great success with a particular host? I saw where InMotion is providing financial support for Gallery, would they be the best of the best for Gallery Hosting?

I'm trying to support this for my dad who doesn't understand all that goes into the back-end hosting and he just thinks that "Gallery is broke".

Any help would be appreciated!

Joseph, You are not alone, I too registered with HostUpon a year ago and have been having nothing but issues with them recently. I've noticed two major issues with them:
1) Their SQL server is rejecting connections. I have lots and lots of log files where I'm getting a Max connections error back from their server. The thing is that I'm the only user on my site at those times (verified in cPanel) so I know it a bunch of BS! I think their governor (used to keep on client from hogging a shared host) is failing to do its job correctly.
2) ImageMagick (what gallery uses by default to re-size images) keeps getting killed. My guess is that due to their i/o speed, it takes to long and gets killed on the server.

Overall, I think that the gallery3 team should remove them from their "recommended" server list if not put some pressure on them.

I use Arvixe.
Minor non- gallery related issues but worth it. Just renewed with them for another 2 years

Pretty late in this conversation, but I have two galleries going with http://www.surpasshosting.com/. One is in my sig and another for my EverQuest 2 character. My WordPress blog is also there and some other sites which include a SMF forum. I'm on one of their shared plans.
