Button on picture page as link

Been through all the mods and didn't see anything that may pertain to what I would like to do. Would like to put an icon somewhere on the picture page (page that is displayed after hitting thumbnail [Grey Dragon]) that would take the user to the data portion of my website. It's sort of like a catalog but for ancestors. Not every picture will be linked out. I don't care if the "button" is on the picture (as shown in attachment) or on the page near the picture. It would behave like the MORE button (on upper right), which comes up on "mouse over" on picture. Perhaps a button on left side that may say DATA or INFO that can be linked to additional data in another section of the site. The site consists of three programs and each can point to the other. Hopefully the attached makes it clearer. I realize there probably there is not and exact mod but is there one similar that can accomplish what I am looking for? Thanks,

How do you think the UI for this to be done?
I think the custom fields module might work for this.
Getting a button like the existing button should be similar to how the existing button is coded, have you looked at how that is done?
Making the button work on some items and not others will require some db interaction, are you prepared to create a module to do that?
