I would have added to the prior thread about this, but I guess it's timelocked; Is webp support planned, or part of Gallery 3.1? I just went to add a bunch of webp images to a gallery and realized support isn't there yet :)

Thanks!

Because the worlds largest photo sharing site is ramping up support for it, and every image I download from friends now has been coded with it. Also, Chrome has supported this format in stable for a very long time now, not just in nightlies; I'm running chrome stable on my tablet and webp images load perfectly.

Still no wide support. Hell if the parent project is of any indication crApple iDevices may never support it at all. Which means you'll need a cludge like we need w/ webm video.
Let's work on feasible feature requests for the time being. And any far reaching requests can be developed by the people who actually want them.

Its not on the list. That I can see. If it was then I would prioritize it much lower that other features.

Support for browsers is far below the that of other formats so I guess it is up to the community (you) to add support as needed.
Even wordpress with it mass of corporate support and 100s of developers even make it a plugin using JS so why should we make it a priority over other features?

Upgrading JS, Kohana, CSS and other back-end frameworks will take a significant amount of work let-alone adding yet another format that the JS support is not even at version 1 yet.
