I have not used gallery for some time and have just inherited a project that involves a large photo gallery built on gallery 2.1.2. From a brief conversation with the person who put the site together I understand it was a beta release or something, that he says is not upgradeable.
I tried to run the g2 immigration module in gallery 3 but it threw up an error right away. I am working on the same account of a Hostgator account. Is there an easy way to just move the images to the /var folder and copy the relevant database information? I only needs images and the captions, and of course the thumb and folder information.
I tried to search for people who had done such a thing before but did not come across anyone who had tackled this. Would it involve a lot of tweaking to make the database work?
Alternatively, does anyone have thoughts on updating 2.1.2. to 2.3? should i even try that or is that a recipe for disaster?

2.1.2 can be directly upgraded to 2.2.6 which then can be upgraded to 2.3.2
FAQ: How to upgrade Gallery2?

From there you can migrate to gallery 3 - note this is not an upgrade but a migration to a completely different application.
FAQ: Upgrading from Gallery 2 to Gallery 3

Gallery2 is still fully supported, although no new features are being actively developed by the core team - there are still active users developing new features.
Gallery2 also has the ability to be easily integrated into many applications like WordPress, Drupal, Joomla... or any php enabled webpage.
Gallery3 is still waiting on this functionality.

So I mislead on the upgrade information, thanks for that info.

I have run into another road block though, since the Gallery 3 installation and attempted update my old Gallery 2 has gone haywire. http://licoricegallery.com/gallery/main.php I have not touched this install apart from trying to use Gallery 2 module on it.

Any ideas on what stupid move I have done here?

You're running a very old gallery on PHP5, just perform the upgrades.

Thanks Suprsidr, that worked a treat. Just didn't realize I would have to follow upgrade path like that. Thanks again.

Thanks for this thread. I'm also running a copy of Gallery 2.1.2. When I have the time I will also use it to upgrade my old version of Gallery 2
