.htaccess trouble

I have been trying to configure the gallery to work on my server. My server does not allow httpd.conf access so I followed the advice and deleted the .htaccess file in the setup and directory. My server still gives me the "500 Internal Server Error." I am not sure what else I can try. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

If you deleted the .htaccess file, it's some other error. Either check (or ask your host to check) the server's error log.
