Automated Server Upload - Req for comments / ideas / suggestions

Okay, this is just a topic for discussion. I'm -very slightly- considering writing a module (not in the gallery module terms) that will scan a directory(s) for photos and 'upload' them to your gallery. I'm requesting your comments on how this should work.

Things under consideration thus far:

1) How should the 'module' know where (which album) to upload to?
1a) How do you envision this process working?

2) Outside gallery requirements (cron / perl)?

3) Linux based only (for me at least)

I'll add/review as I have time, which is limited at the moment, but am curious to see what others think/suggest before I go about even thinking of tackling this.
