Upgrade steps dont make sense to me

Heres how i figure its done...

# Download new version, unzip on my desktop (or wherever)

# Now download the old var directory from the site

# Put the old var, into my new pack on the desktop

heres whats confusing...

# now upload this new pack to website and overwrite everything thats onsite????

wtf??

wont this erase all my folders (modules/themes etc)?? I'll lose everything?

The reason why we don't just overwrite the old files is that there might be some old files left about & with the framework we use Kohana has a cascading effect that it might read/use the old files (from modules etc.) and render the pages wrong.

Great work thankyou. The full explaination made a lot more sense.

Now ive completed the process im still finding that the reminder is showing up

A newer version of Gallery is available! Upgrade now to version 3.0.4 (remind me later)

is there also anywhere that states what version im using. i have no doubt ive upgraded but just wish to see the proof at first hand

Admin -> dashboard
or if you look the gallery core module will be 49

hi ive done all steps here

i go to upgrader, and it does nothing but say "congrats gallery upgraded!!" (it doesnt run thru any install steps

now im still getting the Update reminder, and also on the dashboard it states Version: 3.0.3 (Hotlanta)

wtf i just upload all the 3.04 files and its telling me theyre all 3.03
