multisite: cannot add new instance

I am trying to add a new instance to my multisite gallery (version 2) but don’t remember how I did it first time. The instructions on this site are, unfortunately, too general and not very clear. The main ambiguity is that it is not clear when they talk about adding a new instance, as opposed to adding the multisite installation.

Does anyone have notes on how to do that? I wish I had taken more notes when I did this first time. I use a hosting service and have full access (ssh, mySQL, etc). I can supply version information but I don’t see the relevance, since this works the same with any version.

The biggest difficulty that i have is not being able to access the installation program. I am wondering whether I had disabled it, to prevent unauthorized installation attempts, but I can’t remember how I would have done that and how to enable it, if so.

Yes, the distinction between first-time installation of a multisite gallery and adding individual instances to it could be a bit clearer. I have read it many, many times and still have that opinion. But I would like to discuss it some other time and concentrate here on the problem at hand, until I resolve it. And why does this thing add markup whenever [i]I type upper case I (as it just did a few words ago) and make me have to go back and correct it each time?

The biggest help that [i]I (does it again!) need here is to find out what could be causing the inability to invoke the installation script.

make sure gallery2/install is accessible and follow the instructions from http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:Multisite#How_to_install_a_new_multisite

AND who cares about your forum formatting issues?

I have a feeling that I have removed or changed something after I installed the codebase, to prevent an unauthorized installation, but I cannot remember what it was. Simply pointing the browser to the g2/install (that is what it is named on my multisite instance) is generating a browser error. If someone is willing to take a look at the directory structure, I can send it in a private message.

sure, or you can look at the intended directory structure by downloading a fresh copy

Why not fix that issue by replacing the files if FAQ: How can I make sure that my installation files are all intact? Does not work.

I was avoiding new installation and askking around, for a quick fix, but I did that with svn now and it still fails. There is just no way that I can get my browser to open gallery2/install without generating an error.
