I came across a video about the OpenPhotoProject (lots of media coverage about it) and I'm wondering has anyone tried it yet? I think their mantra is to "liberate your photos across cloud storage, or use our OpenPhoto.me service for a small fee and your data sits on the cloud"

I don't use cloud storage (because of unresolved privacy & data retention questions) so OpenPhoto won't serve me any good. G2 provides everything I need.

I haven't really kept up with G3 other than the install issues (filed a ticket already! :)) but I'm curious what Bharat and other Gallery devs have to say about it.

anyhow, Menalto Gallery 3 vs. OpenPhoto - your thoughts?

I haven't tried it yet - but it looks pretty cool. I created an account and played with it. Building a frontend on top of Dropbox or S3 makes a lot of sense. OpenPhoto is going to provide a lot less flexibility than Gallery 3, but the parts it does it'll do really well. You can pull in a comment stream via Facebook, use Dropbox for storage.. they'd have to create their own tagging system (looks like they have that). I'll keep an eye on it.
