Mounting a remote Samba share to add photos to Gallery3

I'm a new user and I'm wondering if Gallery3 can be configured to point to a Samba mount point folder that has all the photo folders in it. The photo folders actually reside on an network drive.

I understand (I think) that the usual case is that it imports them all to a local directory.
