joomla component error

Hi there, I installed the joomla component for Gallery 3. I'm using joomla 1.7 is there documentation and support for the component, is the gallery 3 component for joomla 1.7

the error I have is

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /joomla-convert-1.7/administrator/components/com_gallery3/views/about/tmpl/default.php on line 12

there is no extra < and the tag is a <fieldset> tag properly closed off.
