Upgrading from Gallery-2.0.2, but no upgrade path exists

I would like to upgrade an older installation, Gallery-2.0.2, to something recent. Currently, I have just the data (sql databases and g2data), not the application files. First thing's first: Gallery can't be directly upgrade from 2.0.2 to either of those, so I should re-install Gallery-2.0.2 properly. The link for that version is availabe (http://codex.gallery2.org/index.php?title=Gallery2:Download&oldid=8035), but the target no longer exists -- 2.0.2 (2.0.4, really) is no longer available. The link redirects to http://sourceforge.net/projects/gallery/files/gallery2/ , where 2.2.6 is the oldest available version. What is the recommended upgrade path? |

Back everything up and then try to upgrade to v2.2.6 by overwriting the files with v2.2.6.
If that goes well, do the same thing to go to v2.3.1 from v2.2.6
