Image Quality

I am loving gallery 3 but am having a tough time with the re-sized image quality. No matter what I try the quality of the resized image is terrible.

I have uploaded high resolution and reduced resolution photos. Same problem.
I have played with the image_quality and image_sharpen trying different values.

I am using imagemagick. This is happening with various themes.

Anyone know what may be happening? Am i missing something?
