Use Exif thumbnail to speed up the upload process

This is my first post to the forum.

I'm now trying G3 to run comfortably on Linux based NAS box (http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Category:KuroboxPro).

I could successfully port G3 to the NAS, but uploading a photo takes a very long time. I guess that making a thumbnail takes time.

I came up with an idea to extract thumbnail from Exif header instead of using a graphic tool, such as ImageMagick to generate a thumbnail.

Have anybody implemented the idea? If not, please advice me how to implement the idea.
