I am currently working with a v2 Gallery that my University has installed for Faculties to load images on to our web site. However, I am having endless problems attempting to use the Gallery Remote Java applet on my home Windows-7 64 bit machine. I can log in to the Gallery, and then load an image with the intention of uploading it to the Gallery. If I then press 'upload' I get a message that Imagemagick can not be found. Now, I have downloaded and installed Imagemagick as suggested, as well as Jpegtran; I have tried installing them in 'small' directories (i.e C:\im\...); I have put the directory in my system Path; in short I have tried everything - but all to no avail. The applet - note, NOT the installed version - just cannot find those programs. I have read the notes, over and over, and looked everywhere for an imagemagick.properties file, but it doesn't exist. In fact, the only directory that seems to have any information about the applet is one called C:/Users/Mike/.GalleryRemote. I've scoured the 'net; looked at forums and support info but am at a loss where to go next. I note that even if I wanted to install a standalone Gallery Remote, the link is broken..... To add to the total confusion, in desperation, I tried to uninstall the "Gallery Remote" that is shown in my list of programs - and I can't!! The control panel shows an entry, but I only get a message to the effect that it cannot be uninstalled. So here we are - completely and totally tearing my hair out. I'm pretty savvy; usually manage to solve problems eventually and many, many years experience, but this has me beat. So - does ANYONE have any ideas. And please, again I stress this is in respect to the immediate run Java applet - NOT the locally installed version. Also note that the image does, in fact, eventually upload - but obviously Imagemagick and Jpegtran appear to play no part in that process. How can they - they can't be found.......!! Thanks for ANY valid advice - Mike

You don't need those toolkits to operate the applet.
They are for local image manipulation like resizing/rotating.
Gallery does all that once they are uploaded.
So save the rest of your hair, I believe there is a setting to suppress the warnings in gallery admin -> remote
Also Uploadify is better.

Or GLoSS which provides uploading to G2 from your desktop.

Thanks very much to both of you for replying to my cry for help! I certainly hadn't realised that Imagemagick and Jpegtran were 'optional' - the implication was that they were mandatory! I will try both other options that have been suggested, although I have to work with my Gallery admin to get changes made on the server side. I guess my major requirement is to have a stable experience for our users, many of whom will not be "super-technically proficient" (i.e average users!) and for whom a non-threatening - and error free - experience is a key issue.
