Gallery Remote won't work with MacOS X Lion - any alternative?

MacOS X Lion doesn't support Rosetta any more, so the good old Gallery Remote Client won't work. Is there any alternative client for uploading pictures in G2?

What doesn't work is the version of Gallery Remote that was installed using the InstallAnywhere installer. If you run GR using WebStart, that still works on Lion. The installer was deprecated a good long while ago (but since GR hasn't been updated since then, nobody noticed :-) ).

Thx for you help. I have one last question: if I try to upload elements directly in my gallery, I have two possibilities:

First: Installing Gallery Remote on my computer
Second: Using Gallery Remote via Java WebStart

If I click the Java WebStart link, I can download a main.php file and nothing else happens. How can I fix this?

I've got the old GR installed and would love to use Java (I assume) WebStart, but exactly how does one go about doing that with the extant GR???

This works only in G2, not G3, which is not supported by Gallery Remote: all you have to do is log in to your Gallery, select Add Items, select the Gallery Remote tab and click the Run Gallery Remote immediately link.

This will run GR using WebStart, and will add a Gallery Remote executable on your machine so you can henceforth run GR without having to go through the web site.

For those of you having trouble figuring out how to launch gallery remote on OS X Lion, here is your answer. I am assuming you have already done the following steps:

1) Install the Gallery Remote plugin on your instance of Gallery2 on your web server.
2) Login to Gallery2 admin, browse to the location you want to add photos and click "add items".
3) Click on the "Gallery Remote" tab of the "Add Items" page.
4) Click the link: "Run Gallery Remote immediately using Java Webstart".

Here's where I got stuck, and by the looks of it many others are stuck at this step too. If you use Internet Explorer, apparently the java app launches automatically upon clicking. However, being a Mac user I had no such luck using Firefox, Safari or Chrome. Clicking the link prompts you to download "main.php", and with no further instructions for the user on what to do, the app does not work. Here is the solution:

Download the main.php file to a folder of your choice. Then rename the file with the ".jnlp" extension. For example, I renamed my "main.php" file to "GalleryRemoteLauncher.jnlp". JNLP stands for "Java Network Launching Protocol" and if you have Java installed on your system, launching the file with the .jnlp extension will correctly launch the java applet. You will then be prompted to download the latest version of GalleryRemote to your system and Gallery Remote will launch and run.

@dbricca: Brilliant! Thanks for posting this - it'll save a couple of UK soccer snappers hours.

When I do these steps, I do not get a link for running Gallery Remote now. i just have a down;load link and it goes to a 404 error page. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve
