Server_Add Modification

I love the server add module. It works very well with my picasa images and directory. What I'd like to do is set it up so that it basically overwrites or ignores already existing albums. I make addition to my picasa images on a regular basis. I'd like to simple use server add on the home album and just add the new albums and files to gallery3 instead of creating a new album. Under the hood I noticed if the album exists it adds a dir named <album>-xxxxxx. As is is I have to delete everything and reimport everything.

I tried some hacking with things if file_exists to check for the existance of an image or album, but with no success (and sometimes very bad outcomes). Any idea where I should even begin to look to change this? I'm a moderate php programmer so I can change the code if need be. I just don't know where to start.
