GoDaddy or 1&1 or some other host who has been struggling for over 8 YEARS to upgrade from Apache 1.x?
There are some solutions here:

Indeed, the server is 1and1. And my website is:
http://lichtenbelt.com/gallery3/index.php/
I do not understand all steps for 1and1.
1) Why installing again, when the gallery program already works correctly (expect admin and ffmepg)?
2) The directory already exists. I do not know how to set permission on 777???
3) Chnaging the .htaccess file with AddType x-mapp-php5 .php is no problem. But the action:
'4B. Also in .htaccess, uncomment the mod_rewrite block. Set the RewriteBase parameter to the directory name that you used "/" or "/gallery3"(no quotes). if you're using a subdomain without a directory (eg http://gallery.example.com/).'
Is completely unclear to me. In the .htaccess file is one rule errordocument...., but no mod_rewrite. What exactly do I to introduce in this file?
Thanks for your help

I haven't looked at those steps for awhile, sounds like who ever in the community wrote them posted what worked for them. From my understanding of these totally irresponsible hosts still using obsolete software that you just need to enable the rewrite rules. They are in the .htaccess that ships with G3.
It would be under your gallery3/ directory.
