Separate Edit and Delete Permissions

Dear Gallery Experts,

I'd like to use the Photo Annotation module in my Gallery but I notice that if I enable Edit permissions for registered users this also enables the Delete permission. This gives people the ability to delete (possibly accidentally) anything up to and including the whole gallery. Is there no way round this?
