We are almost finished evaluating Gallery3 to replace our hacked
system. Presently ours is a Joomla/jDownloads/AUP combination. It works, but is crude, has large bulk and overhead, and is file oriented, not image. You can see it at librum.us.

There is one remaining issue. No AUP-like functions.

AUP is Alpha User Points, for information see alphaplug.com

While AUP is a social thing, it can be configured to be a pre-paid
points system and the AUP can credit/debit from the 'account' depending
upon the 'action'. One of the actions is allowing to user to buy, via paypal, points. In other words, not a 'post action shopping cart', but a prepaid
review system.

I realize that a full module would probably be out of the question, but I
suspect that somebody has done some AUP API insertion location hack work.
If so, PLEASE contact me.

If no one has, then this would be a nice add-on to Gallery. Photographers
can have a 'trickle' stream income, users see the thumbnail, and can 'buy' full view/download if interested to review, with no obstructive cart or bouncing back/forth to PayPal.

We use the following AUP Actions.
1) New user. Grants 0 to x points upon a new registration.
2) Add points via PayPal.
3) Display True Points. Shows the account balance.
4) New Daily Login. Each day, first login of the day, grants 0 to x points.
5) NEP Block. Not Enough Points. Disallows the ability to see/download
if not enough points in the account.
- jDownloads holds the 'value' of points to be deducted per item. I see
no such in Gallery, but suspect there is. There would need to be a way
to assign values per gallery/item. Item should have over-ride over gallery value.
- I was thinking that in Gallery, thumbnails chould be seeable, but not
clickable if not enough point in account.
6) I know that watermarks can be used in Gallery. The ability to view/download
unmarked copies would be a nice add-on.

I suspect I have not done a good enough description, so if unclear, please ask.
