Hi Jesse,
Based on my experience the hostname is written in your cpanel and the username is user of your DB. .

The cpanel has main domain: ssawnings.net username:ssawning
I believe I can make up a username for the gallery db but I don't know what to
put in the DB Hostname:

search your hostname in your cpanel usually its in advance option
or if you cant find it you can contact your server hosting to know exactly what is your hostname . .

Just to be clear, the DB hostname is the name of the system (host) that is running the instance of MySQL on which you have privileges (with the db name / username /password you've been given.) That may be the same system that's holding your website, or it may be something entirely different. Best to ask your host.

Problem solved. Fix: I had completely deleted my gallery installation & was installing a new copy. The installer did not recognize any of my info.
Using MySQL I created a database xxxx_gallery2 or mysite_gallery2 & gave it a password. Then I entered the info in the installer & it worked. However the default of the installer was DB Host: localhost & this was correct. The new info was entered where the installer had DB:gallery2 & replaced with xxxx_gallery2 the new DB created with MySQL Admin.
