Hi, all. We're getting lots of requests for G2 demo sites, so I figured I'd start a thread for people to post links to their G2 installs so that we can get a feel for what's out there. Post your G2 link here and a short description of what it's about. We're especially interested in descriptions of any customizations that you've performed (new modules, template changes, new themes/layouts). If you've done any of that, try to give us an overview of what you did and why. Thanks!

Please post only sites using Gallery version 2.0.2 or newer.
Note to viewers: we are not responsible for the contents of these external sites.

Built with the siriux theme. Embedded in site using header/footer includes. Various tpl modifications for page layouts. New Items module added to siriux theme. Minor mods to navigation, breadcrumb, & slideshow.

Backend template mods for photographer/uploader ease of use. Basically all backend pages that can be accessed by the photographer user group have been edited so that any fields which they should not be able to edit are hidden (to all except admin user group) and visable fields have edited verbage. (example: see attached image)

Glad this threads back, the old one seemed to vanish when the new website was launched.

Mine, embeded in wordpress using wpg2 using an edited theme based on matrix, and using elements of siriux. Really trying to make it a bit cleaner (removing the sidebar) but still retaining the functionallity and the info for comments/exif

http://www.gonewalkabout.info/gallery/

also added the fantastic google map module currently in development

Here is my gallery 2 site, using a customised matrix theme:

http://www.youpidou.net

Also using the only eCard module I could find for Gallery 2, made by siriux.net.

Despite the lack of nearly any customization, this must be one of the finest G2 installations I have seen yet:

Here is my site:

http://james-griffin-photography.com/content/v/galleries/

It uses a customized version of the Siriux theme with some tweaks to the code that generates breadcrumbs and title tags. I also added some code to place the item keywords in the meta=keywords tag for search engines that still pay attention to that.

Hey, Looks like my gallery is working finally. Visit www.finescenery.com to have a look.
I'm planning to sell printed images but not sure about the cart now. I may add it later.

I've done some customization including new custom fields. My site has panoramic images and simple photos. For panoramic, I have the field of view (horizontal and vertical) stored in custom fields as well as panoramic layout. For simple images field of view is computed based on the focal length of the lens and the dimensions of the imaging sensor. Also I've added common custom fields such as polarizer used(yes/no), focal length, shutter, diaphragm, etc.
Also I've added functionality that looks in the exif and copies all the data I want into the custom fields upon upload of images.

Please visit a site I created for a client: http://www.sharynintihar.com. The site displays some of the artist's work.

The theme is based off the default Matrix theme, though I modified it quite a bit. The home page uses a variation of the site's main template. I also modified the album and photo templates to change the look to what the client wanted. This is my first experience with Gallery and I am very pleased. Gallery2 allowed me to create this site very quickly compared to what it would have taken me to code this by hand.

I've finally tweaked our gallery to match the rest of the site -- I think it turned out fairly well. It uses a customized version of Matrix.

I'm referring to the Wedding Portrait gallery listed several messages back.

I have a lot of gallerys ( 100 ) with an average of 100 photos in each and I was
advised to use Gallery2 only and disable all features to make it run fast and also
I dont need any features other than to display thumbnails and some way to navigate.
Using the folders names as descriptive info would be fine.
Of all the above demo galleries shown, or not yet listed, is anyone aware of one
that is lean and mean for pure image display without burden of extra features ?
I will be installing on a shared host website and am concerned about burden
to host processor.
Thanks
Scott

we shouldn't discuss performance / features etc. in this topic. this thread is dedicated to demos and comments about them. e.g. complimenting the customizations etc.

KongisKing.net Fan Art Gallery

1) Create a custom "KiKn" theme that matches as closely as possible the color scheme and look and feel of the Kikn Gossamer message board.
2) Implemented the ability for any site administrator to set a message of the day (MotD) which appears at the top of every page. This is editable by a site administrator on the Themes/Kikn tab.
3) Implement a mechanism to display a random "fan art banner" on the top of every downloaded page.
4) Add a field to the 'user' and 'userrequest' database tables kiknName, which allows easier tie-ins to the message board system. In displays, the Kikn board name is hyperlinked to the Kikn profile page (on the message boards). We did not want to embed the Fan Art Gallery in the message boards as we wanted to limit the people who could be in the Fan Art Gallery to a small subset of the message board members.

Hi Scott,
I have sent a suggestion to solve your problems to the Admin and maintenance forum, which I think is where it belongs.

We have recently launched a new Gallery Web Directory - http://g2-sites.com - where you can promote your websites which are powered by Gallery. Despite the name you can submit both G1.x and G2.x sites. Submissions can include a description of the site, a thumbnail and a link to your site.

We don't intend to compete with this forum. But, rather enhance the possibilities of people finding good examples of the types of site thay are looking for.

Sites are categorised by Gallery version and embedded environment. If we don't have a category that matches your implementation, let us know so that we can address it. We aim to show the many and varied implementation that are possible.

Just our way of giving a little back to the Gallery community!

My own gallery
http://travelpicsmcc.com/gallery2/main.php
Theme –MatrixGaynor, Colorpack - “Caramel2”
Matrix with my own photo instead of the gallery logo (Which took a bit of finding as the gallery logo is in the main /gallery2/images folder (not in the matrix theme’s images folder) This does have the advantage that the Logo/header comes up early which I like.

A number of albums and sub albums show sampling themes I am (or have been) trying out. Some I do not at all like, but have yet to discard.

Of particular interest are:-

#Travelpics Gallery * My Home
Theme – Tuwannu, Colorpack - Ltgold
is one of my first adaptations - a nice clean look with company logo and matching bar.

#Travelpics Gallery * Overseas Travel
Theme - Matrix, colorpacks – caramel2
Small company logo fitting gallery logo, no bar, caramel colorpacks

#Travelpics Gallery * Overseas Travel * Sydney, Australia
Theme WSWB (an adaptation of tuwannu), no colorpack
Red pipes in the header on white background,

#Travelpics Gallery * Overseas Travel * Sydney, Australia * Karl’s Pics Theme – pluswebgreen (adaptation of Tien), no colorpack
Very colourful or psychedelic.

#Travelpics Gallery * Overseas Travel * Hawaii
Theme – Splatbang, Colorpack - ltgold
Nice bright yellow backgrounds and fresh green text. No header. Needs more work. Not high priority.

#Travelpics Gallery * Overseas Travel * USA
Theme – pluswebgold (Gold/brown Adaptation of Tien) no colorpack

#Travelpics Gallery * Overseas Travel * USA * Colour Fun
Theme - pluswebBrights (pluswebgreen with psychedelic colours toned down, and coloured background). I think I am going to use this on our top page with Theme G1 and colorpack Caramel2 in inner pages. One can definitely have too much af bright colours.

#Travelpics Gallery * New Zealand
Theme – crebel, no colorpack
An early attempt for a client. Grey with green. An adaptation of Tuwannu

#Travelpics Gallery * New Zealand * Waitomo
Theme – crebelb (Same with decorated Summary bar)
Improvement (crebelb2) where the random image is active is on http://www.thecelticrebelshop.com/gallery2/
with the client’s own photos used

#Travelpics Gallery * tnpa
Theme – tnpa (adaptation of tuwannu), no colorpack
Early version with Parish logo and shaped bar in header, linen look background. Needs work.

Theme – wsjfc (a green adaptation of tuwannu, with pipes in header to approximate what they had in G1 with one of Jade’s skins)

It is great fun.
Thanks
Gaynor

I switched from igal when G2 came out :) It rocks!

Here's mine - http://gallery.ibao.net. It is customized from the siriux theme and uses the google map module. A special theme is given to the main page which uses panoramic highlights. This is done by removing the width restriction for landscape photos in the ImageMagickToolkit.class such that all landscape (including panoramas) will have the same height. The main page highlights are the cropped to the same ratio by hand and added to a hidden gallery below.

Well I'm using G2 for a personal gallery that I'm starting to fill up with pictures. It's at:

http://gallery.moonshineridge.com

I started with the theme from Pedro Gilberto, and made a bunch of customizations and some custom imageframes. Also changed a little of the core code so that slide shows are recursive, downloads prompt with a "save as" dialog, etc.

I guess the most unique mod is the screen size choices in the upper right. By choosing one, the window is resized/positioned, the number of thumbnails displayed is changed, the size of the images views is changed, and the number of microthumbs is changed. It's all done with a cookie so the viewer has that set as their "mode" unless they change things. It's also tied into the sizing for the slide show. I basically did this so that I wouldn't be punished for relatives with small monitors :)

Hi, I've recently integrated gallery 2 to document a 10,000km horseride across Asia to raise money for education. The site is http://www.r4e.org/g2data/gallery2/main.php :-) hoping to get Google maps installed and show what websites can truly achieve. Great work on Gallery 2. Always look forward to the updates.

Almost there now....
http://www.digitaltoast.co.uk/blog/wp-gallery2.php

Check out the postmap and photomap - OK, I got a LOT of populating to do, but the principle of the thing works.

I plan on sorting through all my notes and posting a "what I learnt" here, because I learnt a LOT! The main thing being DO NOT think you can install gallery2 on a PC, then port it to a Linux host - it cannot be done! Cost me a whole weekend, totally wasted.

BUT - it's going now. Thanks to the Gallery team for the 2.1 version 2, infinitely better than the first 2 release.

(PS - don't forget the little "drop down" on the right - no one seems to notice it!)

not true.
it can be done, i did it for a customer, that's when we found out that one has to rename all db tables in that case. it's described in the faq and please open a new forum topic to discuss this issue and don't reply here.

I've just added the gallery script to my website. It is a fabulous program! I have adapted it for some slightly different usages from pure photos galleries. Take a look:

This one is for wine making: http://www.trustyguides.com/features/wine-making-recipes/

This one is for diabetes recipes: http://www.trustyguides.com/features/diabetes-recipes/

This one is used to illustrate yoga poses: http://www.trustyguides.com/features/bikram-yoga-poses/

Notice that each gallery has a custom album template in order to blend into the site. It was created by adapting the Sixiux theme. Hope you like it!

My Gallery 2.1 install is here: http://photo.wapoc.com

It's essentially a showcase for my photography. This includes pictures from around the UK and France, plus a little stuff from elsewhere. They're shot with a Nikon D70.

I've incorporated the Google Maps user contributed module, the new rating system and as much other stuff as I feel fits in. I enjoy following the updates and finding new stuff to add.

Comments on both the content and the setup are particularly welcome!

Cheers,

Rob

I could have sworn I already submitted my site as a demo, but I don't see it here, anyway:

http://kylemaclean.net/g2

I've modified the theme in order to incorporate it into my website seamlessly, I changed the link to full sized originals so that it opens in a new window (as they were way too big to fit within the confines of my websites layout). and I'm sure there were a couple other tweaks, but it's been so long since I first submitted my site I can't remember.

tomwag.com
Nearly 20000 photos from my work as a freelance magazine photographer in Luxembourg and abroad. The customization I like most on my site ist that on album and search result pages I get the description on the photos as a mouseover using walter zorn's JavaScript, DHTML Tooltips Cross Browser Library. The captions on the photos and the three lingual IPTC keywords are getting added by my self written in delphi Database on my home computer.

I don't know if my site merits being a demo compared to many of the others up here, but here goes anyway :)
http://pix.alaporte.net/pub
It includes about 3,000 images, pictures I've taken during my travels (Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Costa Rica, Japan, Senegal, UK, USA...). I started with a Canon S10, and have been using a Nikon D70 since 2004. Digital photography is addictive :)

I customized a few minor things (I think most of them are self-explanatory), all of which I was able to do by searching the forums and asking for help (I don't know anything about programming, I can just follow instructions!). And I'd like to thank all those who post their modifications and advice! And a special thanks to Mindless, for his invaluable help!!!!
-I removed the "Your Account" link so that users can't modify their passwords.
http://gallery.menalto.com/node/40399
-I removed the year that appears in the Siriux theme (my albums aren't chronological).
-I added a column on the left in the Siriux theme for the item actions and for imageblocks
http://gallery.menalto.com/node/46467
-I added a link to the java applet slideshow (since I made it recursive, I wanted it to be available when viewing subalbums, but I didn't want to include the normal slideshow, which isn’t recursive).
http://gallery.menalto.com/node/35026
-I changed the default slideshow speed to 3 seconds, and added options for 1 and 2 seconds (in the slider theme). I also made if default to no loop, and show picture x of total (although that may now be part of the default slideshow, I'm not sure anymore!).
http://gallery.menalto.com/node/36939
-I added the keyboard help button to my slider theme (took it from the hybrid theme).
-I added an “add to cart” button on the bottom toolbar of the slider theme.
http://gallery.menalto.com/node/46665
-I changed the default for the slider thumbnail bar to vertical (instead of horizontal) to leave more room for vertical pictures (they're at 800 pixels on my site). I know that users can do this themselves, but I'm not sure many of them experiment with the options. Besides, I'm a control freak :)
http://gallery.menalto.com/node/29273
-I added an “add to cart” button in the search pages.
http://gallery.menalto.com/node/42000
-I removed quantities and duplicates from the cart.
http://gallery.menalto.com/node/38625

That pretty much wraps it up I think! Thanks again for this great (and free :) ) software!!!

-Amaury

hi all,

here's my effort at customising gallery 2.- its a gallery of cake pix- i must say i think gallery2 is a brilliant piece of software!

i made a few changes to the the matrix theme & created my own theme (so's i can do a multisite install & do a different theme for each gallery). i added ny own logo image & tried to blend it in with the rest of the page - & i added a couple email links. not much, i know, but i'm pleased with it!

i downloaded the "joomla starter kit" from the joomla site which installed apache & php etc on my own pc. that way i was able to run gallery on my own pc at home & do all my learning & customising at my leisure. - thought that might be of interest to somebody?

Based on the Carbon by mincel, with modifications:
- Inserted Flash header, to have a consistent look with the rest of the website: blog and so called “commercial pages”;
- Customized typical page footer, (TPL);
- Assigned a fixed width of 800 pixels;
- Some customization in the site admin area, more to follow as time allows.

This is also my gallery based on Carbon Theme with some modifications.
For example:
- i've modified the "updates" module to be the "toprated" module ("Classifica" in upper links, thanks to joe from #gallery irc channel) to give a sense to valutation module.
- I've created and added some tpl in the page footer and some tpl for google adsense (like the upper banner).
- Added the email notification of new comments.

My travel photo gallery is a major part of the Travel Signposts website (http://www.travelsignposts.com/Destination/) and has recently been migrated from G1.

- It has a three column layout with G2 (sans sidebar) in the central column, included site navigation in the left (no images, all CSS buttons), Google adsense in the righthand column, and bottom navigation, copyright etc in the footer. The layout is adapted from the three column layout I used in G1, but it's simpler to implement in G2.
- The site logo is in the lefthand column and there is no header spanning the page because I want to keep the album thumbnails and especially single photos as visible as possible above the fold.
- The album thumbnail table has been sized at 100% so that the thumbnails are distributed evenly across the page no matter what size screen, and all images are centred, including the slideshows.
- Two random image blocks are used on the site home page, no problem there except a need to format the H4 type under the images to a caption weight size. I couldn't find where to switch off the link border so I used a solid border in the module which covered it up. Personally, I quite like the effect I had in G1 where the album was also listed as a link.
- With no sidebar I am using the items dropdown menu at the bottom of the album and photo pages, but find that many people miss the options (I have included the eCard module instead of the fancier VCard one I had in my G1 gallery) so I'll have to have a look at working out something more obvious - suggestions welcome!
- My G1 gallery is still in existence in its original directory and G2 is in a new one; mapping was activated during migration and I put the supplied htaccess file in the old G1 directory and its album directory: so far all seems to redirect perfectly, so hopefully Google won't wipe me from the index. As I haven't had the courage to delete any of the old gallery yet I don't know whether the hot-linked pix (eg in Google Images) will still work.

I had a range of captions already present in G1, ranging from basic two words to descriptive sentences. File names remained numbers though, so I couldn't use them as titles. I decided to use the G1 caption in all three fields as a compromise, as it would have been too much work to input them all again (at this stage, anyway). To make this practical, I truncated the title in the album template to 30 characters so that it would act like a teaser to the summary. In the single photo page I similarly truncated the title to 65 characters to get a similar but more informative effect. This is clearly not ideal, especially as it results in a very long title in the title tag appearing in the browser bar, but it was the best compromise I could think of. Of course, to get a similar effect to the album page in G1 I could simply turn off the title, but I quite like the two weights of text.

The only problem I have had so far is with the Google sitemap cutting off after 4000 lines or so.

Hope this is of help, I found reading about other people's experiences was a great aid to me when (finally!)I faced up to the change...:-D

Regards,

Tony Page

www.lightpainter.co.uk Photography by Tom Gardner

My G2 site for showing and selling my photography portfolio. It uses the excellent PGtheme by Pedro Gilberto, and I've integrated the Paypal Checkout module and ecard module, both of which work well.

I've experimented with integrating with ZenCart for a more fully featured e-commerce option, and while it worked ok, I haven't had time to get it integrated thematically etc, so it is not currently active.

The main thing I am longing for is a virtual album feature (like Flickr sets) so I can allocate the same photo to different thematic albums rather than duplicating them.

Tom

Here it is integrated with Joomla. I had to edit the classic theme style sheet.
I also added the G2 Bridge and the G2 sidebar component.

I am not entirely sure about the registration just yet (if I should disable G2 registration since I have the g2 bridge installed on Joomla)

How did you set it up so that all thumbnails are aligned nicely on one page WITHOUT the date? If you look at mine, they are listed vertically.... me don't like that.

http://severinghaus.org/gallery/ -- Gallery 2.1.1 with a number of customizations:

  • Matrix theme with heavily modified stylesheet
  • Modified search block to use Google instead of built-in search
  • Modified AlbumSelect tree on the left to use real links instead of Javascript
  • Helped create the Google Maps module, which I'm still using
  • Wrote the Updates module to show recently added items; just added an RSS feed for it
  • Google ads, for better or worse

You should post your page in the showcase album rather than in this topic.
See:

I think we'll soon mark this topic as unsticky and it will get lost somewhere in the forum topic flood.
