Gallery 2 - After Joomla upgrade from 1.x to 2.x

Hello All,
I have recently upgraded our web page from Joomla 1.x to 2.x. We are currently using Gallery 2.3.2 with no intentions to upgrade to 3.x as of yet. Once I move the contents of the jupgrade directory to be the production location, what must I do to continue to use the existing installation and configuration of Gallery 2?

importing database from another server?

My client asked me to move his gallery from the current host (which he is not in control of) to a host that he controls access to completely. If I back up the DB, can I import it using PHPMyAdmin or is there a better way?
We have all of the photos, but will lose the discriptions, and there are over 1000 of them....
any smarty ideas?

If I post an image from the Gallery on an external website (like, for example, in a forum using [img] tag) it is not displayed.
Is it possible to allow such display?

[SOLVED] Upgrade from 2.2.6 to 2.3.2

I downloaded the gallery-2.3.2-typical-en.zip and unzipped it in my existing gallery directory. It seems like most files in gallery2/ were replaced, but some important ones like main.php and others still have a date of several years ago. I even tried unzip with -o to force the overwrite, but no luck.

Upgrade from 2.1.1?

I have an old 2.1.1 gallery which I would like to upgrade so I can import into Gallery 3.

I've installed Gallery 3 and tried to do import but end up with the blank screen. The FAQ says I need at least 2.3.2. I've found the faq for upgrading which suggest I have to do it in steps.

[SOLVED] After upgrading from 2.3(.0) to 2.3.2. Cleanup.

I have seen a lot of questions regarding how to implement the cleanup.sh script in a Gallery upgrade scenario.
Among those I saw mentioned the <?php system("/bin/sh cleanup.sh"); ?> solution, which I tried but failed. (It was posted a couple of years ago, so I am not really surprised).
