I have successfully migrated data and database from Debian 2.1.2-2.0.etch.1 to Ubuntu 2.3-1ubuntu6 via the upgrader. At the end of the process I can see the filled website with all data to be viewed. However, logging in results in "An error has occurred." I have switched on debugging but that is not making much sense to me.

How can I fix this? If needed, I can post parts of the log here.

Is it possible to start with a new 2.3-1ubuntu6 and only overwrite/import those tables from 2.1.2-2.0.etch.1 concerning users, albums and items? Is that compatible and which tables are these exactly? If not compatible, it is possible to run a conversion on those particular tables?

If you've switched debugging mode on, copy and paste that output into a text file, zip it and attach to this thread. Not the Smarty Debug output, just the output from the main window.

Possible, maybe. Hard work prone for error and huge issues, most definitely.

This is hindsight here, but at some point do yourself a HUGE favor, backup your install and apt-get remove gallery2 Then just download it and install it manually from this site. I have yet to see Ubuntu, Fedora, etc deal with either installing or upgrading Gallery properly or well at all.
