I've clobbered my gallery2 installation...

While attempting to upgrade my gallery2 installation to a more recent version (I was on 2.2, tried to move to 2.3.1), somehow I managed to totally f-up my installation. All I would get was an 'internal server error' message, along with a '404 page not found' error.

My albums are in a separate 'g2data' folder, and in an impetuous move I deleted the 'gallery2' folder. I am now ftp'ing the files from an extracted gallery 2.3.1 typical english file.

Do I continue with a new installation, or should I be attempting an upgrade still? If I do the 'new' installation, I'm guessing my existing albums are toast?

Any guidance will be really really REALLY appreciated!

My main problem is old age - when I originally installed gallery years ago, it made sense; but now I've forgotten all the tricks I discovered way back when...

Thanks
Steve

you need to reinstall the same version as you had before first, choosing the "use existing database" option.

Then you can upgrade.

Without the correct gallery2 directory you're missing the config.php file, and the version.dat file, and trying to upgrade without them will not go well for you.

Okay, I'll give that a shot...
Can I use a pre-installer to install 2.2?

I can't remember that far back, sorry.

Anyone have any suggestions for where to find the actual 2.2 download? I find the 2.3.1 page, click on 'older installations', and get to a 2.2.6 page; click on 'older installations' and end up at 2.1.2. Need something in between...
Thanks...

I tried to use the 2.2.6 pre-installer, changing the 'stable' url from 2.2.6 to just 2.2; uploaded to my server. When I try to run any of the preinstallers, just get the server error message. CHecked the permissions and they are 777 for the preinstall.php script.

Crap...

Not recommended to start mucking about changing things in installers... can get you into grief. Nivekiam knows where old versions are archived, I'm sure he'll be along in a bit.

Update: I have a support ticket in to my hosting service (lunarpages), as I cannot run even a simple phpinfo.php script without getting the same error message. HTML works, but not php...
So some of my issues may be unrelated to gallery2, although I did delete the gallery2 folder on one of my sites; but another site that I didn't touch has the same problem, and I believe they are separate installs. Plus I have a gallery3 install on a site, and that doesn't work either...
THanks
Steve

plus why can I post a comment, and there is no captcha box to fill in; yet every post says it may be spam, so then I have to fill in a captcha box? Ahhhhhh.......

We're trialling a new anti-spam system for this forum which has been over-run with cr*p recently. You managed to post, though, obviously.

My point is that the captcha should just be filled in on the initial post, as a standard step; rather than hitting submit, then having to enter the captcha and hitting submit again...

I imagine that until you've hit submit the first time there's no opportunity to scan the post and see if passes or fails the spam filter in which case you need to enter a captcha.

Here are some links to old versions I pulled from SVN, I believe they are actually the last version of each branch (2.2.6 and 2.1.2)

Nivekiam, if the o/p was really using 2.2 then I suspect that installing 2.2.6 will fail on the old database (missing whatever db updates were done 2.2 -> 2.2.6, if there were any) - but let me know if you think that will work. Otherwise do we have anywhere a 2.2 original?

Sorry, been working 14-16+ hours per day for over a week now....

I'm not sure if it would work. If you know how to use SVN you should be able to get the 2.2.0 branch, but I can't figure that out. When I try to check it out I get the 2.2.6 code base. Which is how I got those old downloads.

One would have to know the revision number of the 2.2 release. I have no idea how one would find that....

I think this might be it:
http://fisheye3.atlassian.com/browse/gallery/trunk/gallery2/modules/core/module.inc#r16034

So the o/p should be able to go here:
http://gallery.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gallery/trunk/gallery2/?pathrev=16034

and click on the "download tarball" link to get a copy of the 2.2 release code.

EDIT: here's the link directly to the download:
http://gallery.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gallery/trunk/gallery2/?view=tar&pathrev=16034

I've just verified that download and the README says "Welcome to Gallery 2. This is the official release of Gallery 2.2, code named “Double Double”."

I had to have my hosting service reset some permissions - apparently somewhere along the line I set my whole site to 777 - oops...
I installed version 2.3.1, and followed the instructions to move my albums over to a separate directory. Once finished, I then installed the module to load from a server, and reloaded all the albums. Lost the view counts in the process, but I can live with that.
So I'm back up and running, mostly - just some house cleaning.

Thanks again for all the help.

Just out of curiosity - if I were to install gallery3 in a separate directory, then load the albums into there from the server, I could have both 2 and 3 running at the same time?

Thanks
