gallery3 initial questions

I have just installed gallery3 and it worked nicely. I was a gallery2 user and have some points of confusion. I run my own web server to put things in context.

1) Gallery3 forced my albums/pictures to be stored in directory "..www/gallery3/var/". Previously I stored them outside document-root (ie. ~/my_pictures/gallery/), which was intuitive for other applications to access (Like my_pictures on windows). The initial installation script would not allow the pictures location to be altered. Can you help me find this configuration option?

2) Are there other options to upload pictures other than the one integrated into gallery3. Has a desktop app like gallery_remote been ported to work with gallery3?

3) Gallery main attraction was for family to see pictures and then download or purchase the ones they liked. That way Grandma could download/print some pictures to hang on the wall. Are these modules available now or in the very near future?

4) Are there any additional modules (Beyond Admin page) available for Gallery3? If so, where is the list and how is installation handled. If not what is the roadmap on this if I may ask.

For issue 1):
FAQ: Are my photos secure? They're right there on my website!

It's not configurable and you can't locate them outside the webroot if it was configurable. This is one major difference between G2 and G3.

2) Just the flash uploader I'm sure you've seen now and the Server Add module for right now.

3) http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery3:Modules There is a contributed basket module right now. There's also the digibug module that ships with G3 for printing, however there are some outstanding issues with that service right now, like the cost....

That's ALL contributed modules (except for one or two that are just zip files in a couple forum posts that haven't been pulled into the repository yet).
