Apache 2 and 1and1. New host needed?

1and1 doesn't have Apache 2 for home users. Maybe time to move on and get a new host. Nice to have shell access too.

GoDaddy has shell access, but not sure what version of Apache. I've used GoDaddy in the past, so it would be a less steep learning curve to move things over, but still a pain (email accounts and WordPress mainly). GoDaddy lists Gallery2; can't tell if it's just a link to install yourself or if one can use their set-up?

Any comments or recommendations? Thanks

IMO, stay away from GoDaddy.

Here's my opinion:

Since you're looking for Apache 2, I assume you're looking for a host to reliably host G3?

The bigger problem with 1and1 is that they measure MySQL DB separate from webhosting space. I know of no other popular webhost that limits users to paltry 100MB databases.
