Quantity of files
My hosting provider (that use to be decent to work with!!) is suspending my account because of “the number of files” I have on my domain. And, with what little information they are providing … they are telling me that Gallery2 cache is the offender. This is frustrating on so many levels …and I won’t bore you with the details … but is there a way to clear/delete the cache from an ftp client like Filezilla… or will that even do the trick?
Example: I have a install of Gallery2 that has about 6000 images … which is translating into hundreds of thousands of “files” .
I am frustrated and lost as to what to even begin to do… any advice and direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance

Hostgator?
6,000 images = at least 18,000 files, 1 for thumb, 1 for each resize, 1 for full size
To reduce number of files, make sure you're only using 1 resize, not multiple resizes for each photo.
Uninstall and DELETE all unused plugins and themes
Remove and make sure they are deleted ALL unused languages.
Clear you cache: FAQ: How can I clear cached data?
That should help

Well I know at one time I had 4 different file size view options ... plus the thumbnail... so that would be 6000 * 5 = 30,000 files ...and then... I assume that there is perhaps a small file that is created regrading the description etc.
If I changed the settings back to the 1 size ...and then told it to recreate/resize ...are those old files still left somewhere in folders and sub-folders???

Example. I have a gallery with ~600 photos.
After deleting all unused plugins and languages (all but English for me):
gallery2 directory = 1687 files and 384 directories (all counted as files in Linux land)
g2data = 1845 files 244 directories (after clearing template and database cache)
So even if I had another 5400 photos (another 16,200) images I'd still be below Host Gator's 50,000 file limit) Well below.

That's all stored in the DB.
Shouldn't be, but delete your cache to be sure. You can even be double sure by going to gallery2/lib/support and deleting all thumbs and resizes, then rebuilding them all over again.

Can anyone offer suggestions of Hosting providers that I could transfer my domain to that wont give me grief about the "number of files". I use VERY little bandwidth or storage space ... but because I run Gallery2 with a lot of images ... I am getting kicked off my current hosting provider?!?!

I've heard of people having 100,000s of images at Dreamhost. But I wouldn't ever be surprised for any low cost host to crack down on that. Lost of small files on a file system can drastically effect performance.
