Are Photo's secure?

I notice that from version 2 to version 3 when you install you can not specify where to put the photo's. In two you could but the folder a few levels down to hide it more. Now in version 3 it defaults to a Var directory and you can not edit this. Is this secure? Are there other things I can do to make this more secure for the Photo's there? I do not what the photo's to end up on Google, Yahoo images, etc. How to I achive this, or is it already setup this why by default?
