compatability

Hey i'm working for a local site and they have requested some help from me because they would like to know what version of Joomla and what version of Gallery work best integrated together. I'm not sure of their host at the moment and not sure what versions of either they can support. I just figured it would be best to get on the gallery site first and see from you guys what you think is the best versions to work with. I think they all ready tried joomla 1.0 and gallery 2.0 and said compatibility was an issue. again i cannot be positive, but any help in what versions work best together would be great.
