hello everybody,

Does Gallery3 support this kind of access control? It seems that its impossible with g2.

I have some albums in my gallery, I dont want that guests can see the contents of these albums.

let me show:

ROOTLEVEL
-> Album1
-> Album2
---> Album21
---> Album22
---> Album23
---> Album24
---> (a lot of...)
---> Album2N

-> AlbumN

I want that the content of all bold albums are not for guests viewable. they should get a login prompt.

But, when guests are in Album2, they should see the album-thumbs of all bold albums.

I tryd a lot of, but I was not able to reach this with the rights control.

Best Regards

Wrong forum. Are you asking for G3 or G2 or Gallery Remote or something else?

For G2 there is a hack, it's in the forums some place, but I don't have it handy. For G3, nope. It too can probably be done with a hack, but nobody has done one that I've seen yet.

I don't see any bold albums.

I ask for g2.

I read a lot of about how superb and how cool G3 will be but then this basic permission feature is not possible? :-(

How can I find this hack for g2?

PS: I edited the first posting and add bold - tags..

why not?? I cant believe this. ... gallery wants to be the best galler software.. and still cant handle this simple permission task
even in version 3.

:-(

Because.

if is a simple as you feel then you can devlope a module that will allow users to view items they don't have permissions to view.
G2 has a more fine grained permissions system but G3 strives to be simple with the permissions system in code and user interface.

From your explanation above:

Quote:
-> Album1
-> Album2
---> Album21
---> Album22
---> Album23
---> Album24
---> (a lot of...)
---> Album2N

-> AlbumN

Or you can set the permissions so that guests can't see the items.
This is possible in G3 as well as G2. Just set permissions on:
Album21
Album22
Album23
Album24
(a lot of...)
Album2N
So that the guest can't see them. But you want the user to still see the thumbs of those albums so I suggest you use G2 and set the permissions so the user can't see the full sized items.
We admit that G3 is not for everybody and perhaps there is some other free or not free photo album management system that suits your specific needs.

Dave
