What's the minimal "incremental backup" I need to do?

My web host (ixwebhosting - definitely not recommended, for a variety of reasons) doesn't have a simple "backup to a .gz file" option for a "big" site ("big" defined to be not really all that big), so I'm supposed to use ftp to just download the whole site to my machine and call that a backup.

My question is that, since the ftp option at least allows me to be more selective, what is the minimal incremental backup I need to do for my gallery, so that restoring from a baseline gallery setup, then overlaying it with the incremental, will produce a match of the gallery?

I assume that this is more complicated than just "back up only the folders for new or changes albums."

In addition to this, what parts, if any, of my MySQL database would I need to back up to preserve gallery functionality?

I fully agree. I'd heavily recommend not using them.

But to answer your question. There is no "incremental" backup of Gallery I can think of. You should backup your gallery install, g2data and database.

G2data and database would be more important as you could possibly get the version of Gallery you have installed from SVN if for some reason you can't download it.

I'd also make sure you backup any changes/themes/etc that you modify/create.
