Custom Header/Footer Elements have gaps between them??

Help! I am new to using php code and am surprised that I was even able to get a custom header and footer to show up! :) However, there are a few elements included in each one and there are gaps showing up between them! no matter what I do (change the height, etc.) they will not just align right below the object above! see my gallery here:

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have attached my theme.tpl file if anyone thinks they know how to solve this and wants to take a look....it's probably a mess, so don't laugh :) lol

View the source of your home page. at the top there is a line that has the <doc type
copy that line and paste it over similar line in the theme.tpl of the theme you are using.
