Please, can anyone help me turn on autoplay in the flash video player module.

Currently, users must mouse over the player for it to appear, then click on play icon for it to play. Many are fooled into thinking video is just slow loading and give up.

I have searched forum for hours trying to find a solution only to find nothing except autoplay was removed from older version.
The problem with having to mouse over the player to see it seems to only be with the carbon theme.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Gallery version = 2.2.4 core 1.2.0.6
PHP version = 5.2.5 apache2handler
Webserver = Apache 2.2.6
Database = mysqli 5.0.51, lock.system=database
Toolkits = Exif, LinkItemToolkit, Thumbnail, Gd, Ffmpeg
Acceleration = none, none
Operating system = Windows NT
Default theme = carbon
gettext = enabled
Locale = en_US
Browser = Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1;

I provide a fix for IE and Opera's "Click here to activate and use this control" blunder in this thread.
It does not provide autoplay, but it does show a Big Play Button.
This fix and other improvements are included in svn and nightlies.

Thanks for your reply suprsidr. This maybe the problem, but I never see "click here to activate and use....etc". Using the carbon theme, I don't see the player until I mouse over it. Then I see the player with the big play icon and all works fine. I just started playing with other themes and they do the same thing. It simply can't work like it is because users think movie is loading or maybe something is wrong and then when nothing happens they either get confused or just give up and leave page.

I will try the swobject fix and see if it solves problem.

thanks suprsidr. I asked about this the other day and noone answered. The programs are working fine, but it is not accepting all the mimetypes. I've removed the embedded video option, in case that was conflicting, and so far, no change.

Thanks lots suprsidr, swfobject fixed my problem. Guess the "click to activate...etc" was being masked and never seen it.

Everything works great now.

Before adding these changes, can anyone tell me if it is needed if I am updated to 2.25? Has this already been applied to these flash versions of Gallery? I noticed the thread was from 2007, and my current Gallery I started in April/May 2008.

My version was 2.2.4 and needed to use swfobject. I'm still trying to figure out how to upgrade mine to 2.2.5 without full reinstall.

Hi guys,
I am running into the same problem (even though I could swear it was working fine a month ago!) My flv video downloads, but all I get is a black screen (I can still listen to the sounds though). I have to right click / press "play" in order to run it. I copied suprsidr files to my gallery / module, and deleted the cache (as another user recommended), etc, but still no improvements. (I even tried adding the - so.addParam("allowScriptAccess","always")-
Any suggestions much appreciated of course

Oh the Fantastico site at my cPanel didnt show that update, it showed the 2.2.6 as the latest one (I checked it too since you mentioned the fix was going to be available for the newest 2.3 version)! I'll try that one then, sorry about that!

Hey guys,
I just upgraded to 2.3, but the problem still persists. My flv video doesn't download (thought the music does), so you have to right click on the black empty space and then press "play" for the flash animation to start playing. Any suggestions on how to make this play automatically?
Thanks a lot for any help!

Good timing.
Autostart did not make it into 2.3 - the feature freeze was so very long ago, I could not remember what had made it.
BUT I do have an update.
Adds admin options to control button visibility, color and Autostart :)
Please give 'er a test run and let me know your results here.

Thanks a lot for the help suprsidr, but it is still not working for me. I just copied those files on my gallery2/modules/flashvideo folder but the problem still persists! :( (I deleted the database and template cache, but to no avail) - I still have to right click and press play to see anything, in both, Firefox and IE

And an example url would help

AAAAAArrrrgh!!!!! right! I used to do them with flashvideo before and then turned to shockwave for the interaction - I am still thinking about the flv files!! Sorry about that!! In any case, will there be a fix for this with swf files?
Thanks for your patience, and sorry about that, my mistake!

swf are self contained "movies" they already autoplay
looks like it works in IE7 just fine, but I don't see the images in FF

Personally I like to use swfObject to render all my flash, but G2 is already using javascript to sidestep IE's "click to activate and use this control" blunder.

Well, now I cannot see the sidebar where my Gallery 2 used to be on my main Wordpress page on IE (I can see it on Firefox) :(
As a matter of fact I cannot even see my categories, archives, etc etc, ?!?!?!?!
OMG this is getting our of my hands - and I Thought that little video not playing automatically was my worst problem!

Has some Safari issues (play button not working) with 480x640 video on the stock 2.3 video plugin. DLed the last update on 11/30/08 and this fixed the issue. Also, DL the flash10 update to fix freezing issues when switching from full screen mode. Thank you!

hi guys,

I'm experiencing a little problem with the flashvideo module:
the flashvideo admin options is not visible in the admin panel, unless I click on the plugins link (main.php?g2_view=core.SiteAdmin&g2_subView=core.AdminPlugins), then flashvideo appears.

I'm using G2.3, and tested in french/english langage, with carbon/matrix theme. I've deleted template and database cache, and disabled/enabled the plugin.

Thanks anyway for the very good work!

There is no admin option for the version that ships with gallery, try my update.
Adds admin options for player color, button visibility, autostart....

You have to completely replace the old version. You cannot simply rename the old flashvideo module, as you will get duplicate classes and functions.
Adn the new flashvideo admin options show under display.

I have deleted the old modules/flashvideo directory and replaced it with your folder contained in the .zip
Is there anything else that I should do? Sorry if I have not rtfm enough...

This is the first I've heard of any problems. So I could not even recommend things others have done, or have a clue as to your error.
If you can check your apache error_log for any hint as to the problem, it would be helpful.
Also make sure your file structure looks something like this:

Hello,

I have the flash player (your ver. 0.02) working and looking good, but I can't get the admin options to take effect. The plugin seems to save options fine, but the player appears without download or sharing buttons. However, the full screen button does appear, but it does nothing. Autoplay also does not work.

This occurs in both Safari and Firefox. Clearing caches has no effect. Take a look.

I don't think this is theme-related because I have the same problem with Carbon activated. I'm stuck on this one.

Thanks for thinking about it and letting me know.

The link to Flashvideo is there in the admin panel. It opens fine and presents the options (colors, download, fullscreen, etc.). It accepts changes and appears to save changes. There's just no effect on the player when we return to the Gallery and clear caches.

Yes, I think so. Is your zip file ( http://www.flashyourweb.com/filemgmt/visit.php?lid=22 ) a complete replacement for the flashvideo module? So after deactivating and uninstalling the Flash Video plugin, I can delete the flashvideo module (via ftp) and simply upload your directory?

Or, should I upload your unzipped files overtop the gallery2 2.3 flashvideo module where your directory's files replace only some of the existing plugin's files?

I'd delete the old one. I'm afraid you're not completely replacing it.
I've personally installed this update on ~30 sites without incident.
And this thread is the only issues that have been reported.
It's hard for me to duplicate/troubleshoot any issues as all my installs are working correctly.

Thanks. I've got it working after re-uploading the zip file, deleting the existing flashvideo module, and unzipping. Unzipping on the server seems to have better results than uploading the unzipped directory. I did have to chown and chgrp the files. I also have eaccelerator running, so I emptied that cache too, just in case.

I won't be using this feature, but I noticed that activating autoplay shifts the video window to the top left of the player's frame. The frame isn't resizing exactly right I guess.

Overall though, I'm impressed with how everything is working. All of your updates make showing flash videos work great on Gallery2.3, and even using x_treme theme. Thanks for putting so much time and effort into making that possible.

After much work I have finally gotten both my FFMpeg and Flashvideo to work, thanks to suprsidr. There are a few problems though:
1. The ffmpeg works when testing but it says:
The FFMPEG module can decode files of the following MIME types

video/x-ms-asf
video/x-msvideo
video/x-flv
video/quicktime
video/mp4
video/mpeg
video/x-ms-wmv

The FFMPEG module can encode files to the following MIME types

video/x-ms-asf
video/x-msvideo
video/x-flv
Missing required audio codec, encoded videos will not contain sound.
video/quicktime
video/mp4
video/mpeg

So perhaps you have a compiled ffmpeg fix for this?

Second issue is that the great big play button on the top of the flash video will not go away. Also I can not get the fulscreen button to show. I am checking in firefox and here is a link. I have it checked in Flashvideo admin.. so What could I be doing wrong?
http://www.teachingwow.org/gallery/v/Mushing/virtualracehowto/webinar.flv.html

It will play

So it looks like you're using my flashvideo update?
Get yourself a copy of my E2 player - its free.
Just rename the E2.swf to G2flv.swf and replace /gallery2/modules/flashvideo/lib/G2flv.swf

That's only for transcoding.
If you are using my transcode/ffmpeg package I've fixed that bug.

suprsidr, I just emailed you some patches (http://bubba.org/tmp/flashvideo_04_mp4mods.zip) that will allow you to enable Apple mobile device playing (on devices w/out flash). Hopefully they are something that you will consider incorporating into your next release.

Thanks,
Bubba

Thanks Brian, I've actually started in the direction of jMediaElement instead.
If you're interested in my results, let me know.
BTW I also added quicktime .mov to my flashvideo module - as long as they are .h264/aac they also play fine in flash(I bet CrApple just hates that)
My solution may include my transcode module using ffmpeg .06 and producing webM video derivatives as a backup for non-flashers.
