Can D6 Taxonomy be used with G2.3 Pictures

I am running Drupal 6.2, integrated with Gallery 2.3.

Can the Drupal taxonomy be leveraged for either:

1. Assignment of keywords in Gallery 2.3 (menus and related terms from Drupal, versus just manually adding keywords)

2. Searching via taxonomy vocabulary terms in Drupal, to pull back results from G2. I know the 'search' module will work, but am referring to the taxonomy search capabilities.

There's a Drupal project to enhance the integration between Gallery and Drupal. It's not clear right now if it will support G2 image node taxonomy but it's a requested feature.
