Hi All

I have coppermine installed but am migrating to G2, with some of the cool thmems i have found.
1st. I want to keep the setup simple, so i have tested zencart intergration which is good, but need to learn how zen cart works, so i tested the checkout modules, these do all that i want, however i am concerned about tracking orders onces they are places. I cannot see anywhere where you as admin can look at orders placed, view orders and change the state of orders to keep it in a organzised manner, is this included and i have missed it or is this a new feature request?

2nd. I like zencart but to have registrastion for g2 then registration for zcart then paypal login, seems to painful for the user, is there and easy way to just have one login. I understand this can be done with a cms and g2 install, but from what i read it seems to get a bit messy.
This is more a zencart question. Can zcart pass login variables thru to paypal.

All these question i am writting so someone new to setting up g2 with a cart can think about these questions and decide which way to go.Also asking to get some good advice from people who have done this.

Frankly i like the basic G2 with checkout module, but unsure how to keep track of the orders.

Pete, at this point there is no order admin functionality in Checkout. All the necessary info is in the database, and several attempts have been made but so far none has emerged, to my knowledge.

The latest effort is being made by Jayhen, the current maintainer of the Checkout modules.

See more here in the Checkout support thread:

As for Zen cart, I find it overly complex for basic needs, and prefer the Checkout modules myself. I have found that I can live without order admin as all orders are also sent by email and I can use those for administration purposes. It would be great to have it all in one place, though.

Cheers,

Andreas

Thanks for clarifying about the amin in the checkout module.
I need to decide about zencart, the other issue with zeb cart. When i load it up it seesm to slow down the performance, in general gallery seesm to run slow and this is on a local weberver!
Need to look into that one.

Pete, Zen Cart is built on OsCommerce, already a bloated and rather ineffective design. Zen adds much new functionality as well as some optimization, but it is still a large system and not known for its speed.

There are a number of contributions available that can speed up and optimize Zen/OsCommerce further, but that's a whole other ballgame.

Also, check out this forum for tips on speeding up Gallery.

Cheers,

Andreas

Thanks for comments on zen cart, i actaully got it going last nite , but its just to complicated with upgrade procedures to managed for what i need.( for 2 years down the track when you have forgotten everything you did to get it to work) I think i may stick with the checkout module, and wait for the admin area. I have a copperimine site that has a shopping cart module and has per folder pricing and admin area to admin your orders. Not sure if this could be used as a bases to started the admin area for the checkout module. ( iam not a phper so do not know if that is helpful or not.

re speed issue i ll wait till i get it up on the internet to play with speed.

In you opinion if you use shopping cart sofware, what is the easy to manage and learn?

cheers

Pete,
for a simple and functional stand-alone shopping cart I use Opencart. The core is clean and uncluttered and it is fast and not to mention XHTML compliant. No integration exists for G2, as far as I know.

I recommend you PM Jayhen about your Coppermine suggestion, it might be useful for him.

Cheers,

Andreas
