Hello,
Just tried Gallery2, and like so many others became an instant fan!
Is any work currently being done in a Joomla 1.5 integration? Since Joomla 1.5 is already on RC3 and thus "just around the corner", and at the same time being one of the most popular CMS systems, I believe an integration module supporting 1.5 would be highly popular.
I'm not (yet?) a PHP coder, but I'd be willing to contribute in any other way I can to make such an integration a reality.
Anyone got some information on any progress of getting Gallery2 to smoothly integrate into 1.5?

When finally installed component from http://trac.4theweb.nl/g2bridge/browser/branches/sil3nt but when I configure components->gallery 2 bridge I get error:
Wrong settings
Notice: Undefined variable: errorString in c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\joomla\administrator\components\com_g2bridge\controllers\settings.php on line 25
I think the main reson is because variable 'errorString' was not defined by programmer, but what I should enter as 'Gallery 2 Path', 'Gallery 2 Uri' and 'Login Redirect'?
I put there c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\gallery2, ../gallery, main.php
What I'm doing wrong?

I've installed finally this component but... I do not see any way I can use that.
Looks like this is some joke...
Is this really working with Joomla 1.5 and last gallery2?
What I should do to get resultat as follow: http://www.carbonsoul.com/index.php?option=com_g2bridge&Itemid=178&g2_itemId=35

Take a look here: http://forum.4theweb.nl/showthread.php?t=1022 - I have it working with Joomla 1.5 RC1 -
Quoting an email reply I sent regarding same issue -

The site is running on 1.5 RC1 - I tried upgrading to 1.5RC2 (didn't work enough with it to say if there are problems or not) and then RC3 came out, so I decided to stay with RC1 until the stable comes out - Gallery2 + Bridge was installed on a clean install of Joomla 1.5 RC1 -

Chris is very helpful if you run into problems -
I had some problems with Gallery2 - I wanted to use a template which allowed me to modify the presentation of Gallery2 (x_treme) but the presentation in Joomla screwed up and the loadtimes were slightly longer than now so I switched to the Matrix theme and resorted to modifying the source code in Gallery2 (primarly to remove header, footer etc.) - I tried running Gallery2 in a wrapper in Joomla but again the presentation screwed up slightly -

"The Template is a workover of Waseems Blank Joomla 1.5 template from
http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,203166.0.html"
- First of all I do not want any BLANK template, I want to use the one that already have in Joomla. What is the sense anyway to install plugin that works only with one template (I always thought that templates are independent).
The second is that this link is too old and does not work (not possible to download this template)
"I used a minor workover of the Template-modifications from
http://www.gallery-addons.com/Gallery-Addons/Component/Embedding_Gallery2/2/"
This is the manual about old Joomla. Not useful at all.
"The bridge is Chris' Gallery2 Bridge v. 2.1 alpha from
http://forum.4theweb.nl/showthread.php?t=1022
http://trac.4theweb.nl/g2bridge/browser/branches/sil3nt"
Good luck, I was playing with these files (first you must spent few hours decoding which file is the right one) - none of them is working (only one you can install but... does not work at all).
I do not think you ansewer is correct - for 200% this plugin DOES NOT work in Joomla 1.5. Just take a look:
http://forum.4theweb.nl/showthread.php?t=816&page=12
Anyway, I would like to know what this bridge would be able to do. If the only feature it offers is to display album page or side bar then it not worthy of loosing time. I need something that would be able to attach pictures into articles body.
It would be a good idea to remove link from G2 integrations to this page: http://trac.4theweb.nl/g2bridge
That's a mistake; no info, out of date docs (concerning some old joomla). Mess.

Joomla 1.5 stable is out now, and there is also a pretty good bridge going from Joomla 1.5 to PHPbb3 (which is also out and stable)
if there could be something that would work well with this I would come back right away...
or even better if it could use Joomla to authenticate users like rokbridge does for PHPbb users
my main thing is one login for all parts of the site, instead of logging in multiple times
Posts: 28
What are thoughts on skipping the J bridge and using the phpbb3 bridge instead. I've often thought of my site running Jommla for the CMS and community functions + Phpbb for Forums + Gallery for pictures. I never went so far as to actually try this since I was always trying to just get one pair working at 100%. After the initial user sync all users "should" be hitting the site via Joomla and all new users will be set from there as well, so user sync should be OK via each bridge to Gallery and phpBB.
Crazy talk? I REALLY want the above solution and I've effectively put my site on hold for almost 2 years waiting for it to come around.
Maybe I just need to take my tax return to rent-a-coder...

guys, do not know exactly what you did or what you want to do, but I decided to write myself a module to display html and gallery tpl files.
thus, I was able to use only gallery.
the name of the module is htmlblock, check whether if fits your needs.

I don't think there will be any further development for the existing joomla bridge.
Since there is no other solution for an integration, I am looking for user sync and to show some photos from the gallery to the frontpage of joomla so this seems like is something of what i've been looking. any chance of sharing it serbanc?
As for the user sync there is a new component called "JFusion" that will provide universal user integration with various softwares. For now they are supporting VB, SMF and phpbb3 but if anyone is able to do a plugin for gallery2 too would be great. There is a documentation on their site on how should be done but unfortunately I don't know anything of coding to do this

htmlblock: here: http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:Modules:htmlblock
please not that what you see on my site is just gallery, no integration.
i will take a look on jfusion.

thank you serbanc, I'll try this.
I installed the current bridge for 1.5, it seems to work but since that it seems that there won't be any further development I don't want to build the site based on this bridge.
As for Jfusion, I know you have helped with the 1.0 bridge with some changes and you might be able to help with jfusion as well if you have the time

as said, I will take a look onto jfusion.
My main problem is to maintain 3 different softwares in order to keep a site up.
Not to mention the visual integration.

well my main problem too is to maintain 3 different softwares and now I am trying to find a solution. For the one I already found a solution but with Gallery not yet.
I managed to get random photos etc.. to be shown on the frontpage of gallery and have gallery wrapped, sync users through the alpha version of current bridge but since the development it's not going to continue I can't depend on it. And if I click on the photo from the frontpage it opens the gallery full page....well not exactly what I want to do. Tried to change the gallery's theme to make it similar with joomla's template, at least the header but...hehehe
I am so confused at the moment lol
Anyway, I hope a solution will be found for an integration with Joomla as it will get more people to use gallery2 too.

my site is pretty simple, so for this reason developed
- a messages module - working
- extra user data - working (a minor problem on display newline)
- user photo - working for me (for others it seems there are some problems)
- recommend module - working
- htmlblock - working; displays html and renders tpl files
- some extra blocks (flag language selector aso)
I plan to develop myself some other modules like integration with a forum or something like this.
What I really think that would be a plus for gallery, would be an integration with an online image editor.
For the moment I am not going to jump that quickly into an integration. I do not have html design abilities, so I find difficult to integrate visually 2-3 apps.
The modules that I have today are enough for the current stage....

modules work fine for me too the only problem is that I don't want gallery to open on it's one page when an image is clicked from the frontpage. I want to open the gallery wrapped as this is how gallery opens if you click on the link from the menu.

I must admit that I do not understand what you want to do...
can you give an example ?

ok here is what I am want to do
1. The main software I use for my website is Joomla
2. I use Gallery2 for member's gallery
From my main website (joomla) I have a link to G2 for which the content is oppened wrapped e.g. IFRAME. Gallery does not open in it's own page but within joomla
At the content's page e.g. my main page I want to have random photos from the gallery shown in module positions e.g. on the left, right, top etc...
I was able to do this through the imageblock but I have a problem. When someone clicks on the photo the gallery opens on it's own window and not within joomla like it does when you visit gallery through the menu. I am trying to figure out how I will make the link of the photo to make the gallery open wrapped and not by itself.
sorry can't explain it better

Am I understanding Jfusion correctly in that it aims to be a central bridge between Joomla and other apps like BB systems and image gallerys?
If so, why didn't somone think of this sooner.
If so #2 - why doesn't each and every other bridge developer jump on it?
From my understanding yes, that's what they will try to do with jfusion. Although they are not even close to what they want to do but they are just started.
I don't know but one reason maybe is because with J1.5 there are more options to develop such a bridge.
you have to ask the developers as I am not one
I wouldn't even asked for other solutions if the current bridge was supported but can't have my website depending on this bridge. Michael that developed this bridge has done a great job. I never had a problem although a lot of people had some problems with the bridge mine is working ok. Others like serbanc helped with J1.0 bridge and Chris for J1.5 but remember that they are all volunteering their free time and people get busy and we can't blaim anyone for anything, but thank them.
Still, I have a website that I must support and I have two great sources that are necessary for my website since it's about photography and news. Can't sacrifice neither Joomla and neither Gallery2. I don't even want to look for another gallery software. I tried various components for joomla but none is doing what I need to do. But gallery2? Is just perfect. Only problem is that I don't want it to load on it's own page but through joomla.
I tried every solution I could think but since I have no knowledge on coding and all my efforts upto now were...
I tried to change the template for Gallery to look like joomla template, at least the header with the menu but without a success.
As for Jfusion I have nothing to do with it. I mean I don't know even the developer just reading their posts etc..., they are working for plugins for VD, phpbb3, smf, mybb and another one that I don't remember but anyone that can develop a plugin can join them and make one for another application. Some people already joined there to help. Although jfusion wouldn't solve my problem with integration, I would do it for gallery if I had the knowledge just to get users sync. They have instructions how it should be done but can't really understand
Of course I could sync the users through phpbb3 if there was a bridge. Well there is one but from what I understood it's an integration with the forum which is not something I am looking.
Anyway, I wish something good comes for Joomla&G2 in the future as they are both great and I am sure more people would use g2.

To answer this question of yours if it's a crazy talk, no it's not. With Joomla 1.0 this is how I have it set up. I have Gallery bridged/integrated to Joomla and phpbb3 bridged to Joomla. One registration, one log in and it works great. This is what I am trying to do with J1.5
But how can you skip the J bridge to do this? You can't. Gallery needs to be bridged to somewhere to be able to sync users...i think
Posts: 314
let me put it like this:
there are bridges between smf and gallery.
related to the news posting, no offence, but I am managing that via htmlblock. I do not want to put it in front, but this is exactly the reason for which I developed it.
If you need something simple, it's ok.
If you need authoring, permissions, then it is not for such job.
As general ideea, I think that "bridges" will die soon, in the favor of some "central" auth like openid, ldap, aso.
Basically, you keep there the user profiles, then it is your choice to display/modify that information in whatever application. Plus, of course, auth.

that's the reason that I use Joomla cause content is the main purpose of my website and joomla do this job perfectly otherwise I wouldn't bother. Gallery is just an extra on my website, still important as content but the main website is builded with joomla.
And there is no offence, htmlblock is a great tool, Joomla is a great tool too, there are many excellent tools for website out there too but it depends on what everyone wants to do. ;)

Oh well the perfect integration is redesigning gallery's template
kinda difficult lol well I am not good with it but finally I made it look exactly like my joomla's template !! phew I can rest now

what's your site anyway ?

I have Joomla along with SMF and Gallery2. G2 and SMF are currently bridged but only because the bridge wraps them. They don't share users since I'm the only one that has access to G2 and Joomla. I don't need a bridge but I need something that leaves the top navigation and banner from my Joomla template.
Is the HTMLBlock the best way to go? I downloaded but I can't figure out how to actually install it.
Or is the JFusion the way to go? A working wrapper would make this a non issue.
Here's the site.

@serbanc
The site I was working for J1.5 is localy hosted as I am not yet migrating my current site to J1.5. Need to test things first and then do it.
@jiveturkey
which version of Joomla are you using? For J1.0 you'll be able to do this with the bridge that is already developed. And I am sure any help you'll need you'll find it in the forums if something is not workign properly.
For Joomla 1.5 there is currently one bridge on Alpha status though for which as far as I understood there won't be any further development. On my local installation of J1.5 and Gallery2, this bridge works but for me changing the template of Gallery2 and making it looks just like Joomla's template worked better than wrapping gallery inside joomla.
You can find both above bridges @ http://forum.4theweb.nl
JFusion is not currently working with Gallery2.
But since you don't want to share any users with Gallery2 and the other packages you are using I would suggest to try and change the Gallery's template you are using and not use any bridge.
The bridge is certainly overkill for my needs. If the wrapper worked I would be set on both SMF and G2.
I'm currently on J1.0 and I don't want to upgrade until I have a solution.
How would I go about changing the G2 template to match my Joomla template? If I can make this work I'm going to be really stoked.

sorry to be brutal, but if there is no integration, user syncs aso, you could easily:
(1) run gallery not embedded in an IFRAME in joomla
(2) get a small photo plugin for joomla - might be more productive.
serbanc - www.e-poze.ro

I'm not offended by brutality at all. I appreciate any advise I can get. ;)
When you say IFrame do you mean the Wrapper? That think has height issues and I've spent a lot of time trying to get it to work.
I've thought about a Joomla photo pluggin but I really like the gallery software. My gallery is quite large and moving everything over to a new system could be a real pain.

Jiveturkey,
what heigh problems do you have with the warper in Joomla? I use the warper on my J1.0 site and I have no problems but I use the bridge.
If you try without bridge, wrap Gallery in Joomla and set the height of the wrapper to 1000 that might solve your problems. I had the same problem with forum height but solved it setting the height to 1000. Try this first. If still have problems you can try changing gallery's template.
To change the template you could start by reading some information for Gallery's themes
And use Firefox with Firebug add-on. That would make it easier for you to find what you need to change on the template to look like you want it. Try this on a test site or locally first not on a live site. Although I have made a lot of changes that I don't remember to my gallery's template if you need any help to do it I'll try remake it from the beginning and post here the steps I followed to do the change if that will help you.

Here is my result as it concerns Joomla 1.5+Gallery2+phpbb3
I left Joomla untouched and unbridged since I didn't want the users to be sync with Joomla for the moment and I integrated Gallery2 with phpbb3 (works perfect).
I also made a couple of queries from Joomla to Gallery to show some photos on Joomla's site with the help of Jumi module.
But still changed the forum head template to look like joomla's template.
I think the result is not bad. You can see it at Photocyprus

Well, this is unfortunate. I wanted to use G2 over RS2 but the integration issue with joomla is a big key.

Hello,
I continued working on the bridge. It's currently alpha but i'm working on it. There are a few things implemented as SEF support or user sync. The plugins are also updated and should now work again. You can find how to install the bridge here:
http://forum.4theweb.nl/showpost.php?p=5801&postcount=144
Maybe someone of you can give the bridge a try, test it and maybe post some feedback in the form.

Ok sorry I found the explanation. Your g2bridge_component.zip package was not functionnal. It contained two times "g2bridge_component" sub-directory. I re-zipped it and now it works. You should upload a new version of the g2bridge_component.zip on your website.

I would like to get G2 running in Joomla.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry for asking s noob question ...
Where do I drop the "g2bridge_component.zip" contents? I FTP'd them into >> joomla/comonents/g2bridge_component. My Joomla doesn't recognize the component when in "Components". Is this the correct directory?
Someone please detail how to install and where (be specific)?
My G2 gallery is http://www.ultravista.com/g2/
I will not have others register, just me and would like to embed Galler 2.4 into Joomla for my photography website.
Thanks in advance.

In Joomla:
- Install the Gallery2 Bridge Sidebar component (Installers->Components)
- Install the Gallery2 Bridge Sidebar module in Joomla (Installers->Modules). (This will not install as a component i.e. it installs in a different section than the component installed above)
1. In the "general configuration" for the *component*:
---Config Setting -> Full server path to G2 See the above post which is posted by me most helpful
---Display G2 Sidebar: NO
---Display G2 Login: NO
2. Make Main Menu Link
--- Main Menu -> New-> Component-> link to Gallery2, any title you want, Parent Item to Top, choose access level and published
3. Set Side Bar Module
- In the Gallery2 Sidebar Module:
---Set "Published" to YES
---In the right pane "Pages/Items - Menu Item link", select the menu item for the Gallery (do not use "all" or "none"). Rather link to Main Menu item you made above
In Gallery2 Site Admin:
- Themes > (Your theme tab) - Use "Blocks to show in the sidebar" to select what is displayed in the Joomla menu.
You can now access the Gallery Controls from a Joomla menu to create a seamlessly integrated user interface...
Cheers...
